Item Weight Variation Theme Replacement

Our original products (spices) were listed under the Item Weight variation theme. That has since been deprecated. We tried using the size variation theme for our new products (spices), but the primary product listing now says that they need the unit count and unit type for the parent listing. However, this would be different for each individual variation as they have different weights and dimensions.

Has anyone else encountered this issue? How did you fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Seller_fzSBzzgFAug12,

According to https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/GZJRCRLWW7WKKDAH, Amazon has standardized how size and weight information is handled. Instead of using the old Item Weight variation theme, Amazon now derives size/weight information from specific catalog attributes including:

  • item_weight
  • unit_count
  • net_content_weight
  • net_content_volume
  • net_content_count

For your spice products, you'll need to:

  1. Use the Size variation theme as you've started doing
  2. For each child variation, fill in the specific catalog attributes (like item_weight, unit_count, etc.) that correspond to that variation
  3. Make sure the Product Type is consistent across all child SKUs and the parent SKU

The parent listing doesn't need specific unit count/type information since it's just a placeholder. The individual child variations will contain the specific weight and dimension details.

If you're still having issues, you might want to try creating your variations using the Product Template method, which gives you more control over these specific attributes. You can find the template through the Product Classifier tool.

Hope this helps clarify things!

Best regards, Michael
