How often does Amazon share the Buy Box?

There's a product I want to sell but Amazon is one of the sellers on the listing. I know there's an algorithm that AMZ uses to win the buy box based on a multitude of factors but when competing against AMZ is it even worth it as an FBA seller? Please share your experience or knowledge. Thank you!

Out of 24 products I checked that AMZ was selling 8 of them had other sellers in the buy box making that a 33% share.

IME Amazon doesn't share the buy box unless they are actually out of stock (ie they have a very long delivery time). And even then, they don't always share the buy box -- even if it's something they haven't stocked in a year.
