Amazon Fees

Hi all,

We have a question about the fees we are being charged and we would appreciate it if someone can explain to us.

We thought Amazon fees are between 8% up to 15.3%. However, on an item sold at £22.90 we are charged 20.96% as the charge is £4.8 and the final amount we got after deduction is only £18.10.

Here is a breakdown as shown in the transaction details:

Amazon fees;

Commission:

Base amount: -£3.50

Tax: -£0.70

Variable closing fee:

Base amount: -£0.50

Tax: -£0.10

We are VAT exempt

We are on professional plan, not individual

We fulfill our orders, and not through FBA.

We would appreciate an explanation.

Many Thanks in advance and Best Regards

The extra is the VAT on their fees (and the closing fee). You'd have to clarify what you mean by being VAT exempt. If you simply mean you aren't registered for VAT, then that doesn't stop VAT being added.

"Closing fees

You also pay a closing fee of £0.50 per media item that is sold. Media categories are Books, Music, DVD, Video, Video Games (Games, Accessories and Consoles) and Software."

Are you sure there's VAT on these prices? Is it displayed separately on your invoice? It isn't included/hidden in the fee's and would be displayed on your seller fee invoice.

If you're VAT exempt then maybe consider applying for VAT Exemption from Amazon then they won't add VAT to your fee's (excluding marketing fees)

Hello @Seller_IPpdwI0aj2KIJ,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Just to clarify, the £3.50 you mentioned is the referral fee, not £4.80.

Additionally, there's a closing fee of £0.50 per media item sold across categories like Books, Music, DVD, Video, Video Games (Games, Accessories, and Consoles), and Software.

Taxes are not factored into these charges and need to be included separately.

For further information, you can refer to the help page on the UK Amazon site.

I have posted this before, but it seems relevant again!

I sell knitting patterns FBM for £2 each. With £2.80 postage added the buyer pays £4.80. Amazon takes £2.38 fees which is 49.6% for doing pratically nothing!! Certainly no storage/shipping fees etc. No VAT either.

Also, when I list a pattern it states that when sold I will receive £2.82, when you can see that what I actually get is £2.42.
