Unable to Change Legal Entity Details (Business Name and Registration Number)

Due to a recent company restructure, we need to update our legal entity from a UK Company to a US LLC. However, when attempting to make this change, we’ve found that the fields for Business Name and Company Registration Number are greyed out and cannot be edited.

We contacted Amazon Seller Support, and they informed us:

"At this time, you cannot make changes to your business location or business type once you've submitted this information on the Verification page. Please register a new account by using a different email address and phone number in order to restart the application process."

This response doesn’t seem consistent with the information available in Amazon’s own documentation, which suggests that legal entity changes can be accommodated in certain scenarios without creating a new account.

We are committed to following Amazon’s policies and processes, but creating a new account would involve significant challenges, including transferring inventory, reviews, and account history. Could you please clarify whether it is possible to update our legal entity, and if so, guide us on how to proceed?

I have attached a screenshot with my information blanked out to show the issue.

Hi @Seller_fFwr1nwpDl7lv,

You mentioned that Amazon's documentation suggests legal entity changes can be accommodated in certain scenarios - could you share where you found this information?

The main help page about account transfers (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/help/hub/reference/G200506000) states that "Seller accounts generally are not transferable... Every seller on Amazon must have a seller account..."

However, there are some interesting related discussions:

In this thread (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/9ae934ee-45d1-4035-a397-b13deab3b851), @CR_Amazon looked into a similar case, suggesting it's not always a clear-cut "not possible" situation.

In another discussion (https://sellercentral.amazon.com/seller-forums/discussions/t/cca81105-fd03-4de4-ab51-748e8660b6c8?postId=433b5e93-96db-424c-8b69-9d71317fe108), a seller mentioned they were able to update business information with help from their account manager. While their case might be different (as it didn't involve changing legal entities), you might want to discuss this with your account manager if you have one.

I hope you're able to get this sorted out soon!

Kind regards, Michael

You look to be doing the reverse of what I did.

I went from USA LLC to UK Non-Resident LTD.

Its not possible to change the country of origin for your legal entity if you have already chosen it. (You can change the legal entity...but not the country of origin)

I had to create a second account. This is, famously, not allowed but I took a unique route. I made another email address and registered that account with a new email address and it was immediately denied. I contacted Seller Support from that account and inquired as to why it was denied and they told me its because I have been linked to two accounts. I had to send over the main email address of the first account, the merchant ID, and a legitimate business need for a second account. I gave them all of the info and they approved it.

I let the inventory run out on my first account and replenished into my second account as needed. I now use that second account exclusively and the first is dormant.

Hi @Micah_Amazon and @CR_Amazon,

I wanted to follow up on my initial post regarding the inability to change the legal entity on our Seller Central account. To recap, we need to update our business entity from a UK LLP to a US LLC due to a company restructure. However, the options to edit the Business Name and Company Registration Number in Seller Central are greyed out and uneditable.

When we contacted Seller Support, we were advised that:

"At this time, you cannot make changes to your business location or business type once you've submitted this information on the Verification page. Please register a new account by using a different email address and phone number in order to restart the application process."

This advice seems inconsistent with information shared in some Amazon documentation and forum discussions, where sellers have been able to update legal entity details in certain scenarios. Since creating a new account would involve significant challenges—such as transferring inventory, reviews, and account history—we’re hoping for a more precise resolution that avoids this step.

Could you please clarify the official process for updating a legal entity across countries? If it is possible, we would greatly appreciate guidance on how to proceed.

Thank you in advance for your help!
