Nike and Amazon

Nike have said they do not need Amazon and will stop selling on it.

Does this mean 3rd party sellers will be stopped?

Thanks

many many brands are now stopping sellers from selling on 3rd party sites including amazon. so it would not surprise me if they do that as well.

Nike already impose a selective distribution arrangement, prohibiting sales and 3rd party sites like amazon and ebay, just like many other brands do and will close your account if they catch you with product on Amazon. However, we wont have to worry as they have also announced that from 2021 they wont be supplying independent retail.

If you are an authorised stockist, your contract with a brand will have certain criteria. A brand has the right to not allow you to sell on unauthorised third party platforms. See the COTY ruling.

One of our biggest brand partners will allow their stockists to sell on Amazon as it is an approved site, but it will not allow their partners to sell on ebay. Another of our high profile brand partners is no longer allowing ebay or Amazon, but Farfetch is ok.

The trend seems to be that ebay is looked upon less favourably than Amazon. The reason for this is many brands sell direct on Amazon, less so ebay. Most brands still allow both, but brands want their product to be sold in an environment that they want their product to be seen in, and that applies equally to physical and e-tail stores.

Yes this was on the news also. Oddly I was looking for a pair of Nike trainers for xmas found them on an auction site selling for just £15.00 no way they can be genuine for that price. The trainers retail for around £90. I suspect this is why Amazon want to see real invoices from authorised distributers and not receipts from auction websites.

Online sellers should be aware of buying cheap stock from unauthorised distributers, they are putting their seller accounts at risk.
