I am looking for some guidance in creating my first FBM order ..I am looking for help setting up the template and choosing the best shipping services

Hello everyone,

I am new to FBM i have been , a seller for a while now but, I have never done any kind of FBM orders.

I have looked to see what i could find regarding this online but, I figured coming here is probably the best place to ask for help!

What i found was that i need to create a new shipping template?

When doing that i get stuck...I am not sure which services to chose I cant send the item in FBA because it measures more than the 26 inches that the box allows and i dont want to get into shipping palettes which seems to be the answer? I am not sure if I am right here please correct me if i am not.

It would be awesome if someone could help me create a proper shipping template or give me guidance so i can create my shipping template

in shipping settings it gives you the options of different shipping carriers to chose from. USPS, UPS, Fed Ex, & amazon shipping. So far i have checked USPS Priority Mail®, UPS Ground, FedEx Home Delivery®, FedEx Ground®. This is where i get stuck there are a ton of choices to chose from and I am looking for the best/most economical choice for my customers.

Any advice or guidance here would great. thank you so much!

Hello @Seller_mdmBbmUSQeKJB

Christine here from Amazon Forums.

You're correct that for larger items that exceed Amazon's FBA size limits, FBM is the way to go. Let me try to help you with setting up your shipping template for these oversized items.

First, you'll want to determine the shipping services that best suit your needs based on factors like:

  • Item dimensions and weight
  • Delivery speed requirements
  • Cost to you and customer
  • Carrier reliability in your area

Since your item exceeds 26 inches on the longest side, you'll likely need to use one of the carriers' oversized/freight shipping options.

  • For USPS, look at Parcel Select Ground or Priority Mail services for oversized packages.
  • For UPS, you may need UPS Ground or a UPS Freight option, depending on size.
  • For FedEx, explore FedEx Ground or FedEx Freight services.

I'd recommend getting sample package dimensions/weights and then get shipping rate quotes from each carrier to compare costs. The carriers' websites have shipping calculators for this.

When creating the shipping template in Amazon Seller Central, you can then enter the shipping services and associated rate tables that make the most sense for your products and delivery requirements.

The key is carefully reviewing each carrier's oversized shipping options, comparing rates, transit times and then setting up templates accordingly in your shipping settings.

I'd start by enabling just 1-2 carrier services you want to use for FBM orders initially. You can always add more options later once you see how the first services perform.

Let me know if you need any other guidance as you set up FBM shipping! Proper settings will ensure your oversized products can be successfully delivered to customers reliably.

Remember, the most economical option can vary based on the specific dimensions, weight, and destination of your item. It might be worth doing some test shipments with different carriers to see which is most cost-effective for your particular product.

Also, keep in mind that customer experience is crucial. While you want to keep costs down, ensure that your chosen shipping methods are reliable and reasonably fast to maintain good customer satisfaction.

Don't hesitate to adjust your template as you gain more experience with FBM shipping. The first template you create might need tweaking as you learn more about what works best for your products and customers.
