New to FBM, " Evri Ran into a problem with your delivery"

I'd be grateful for some advice please.
I have recently started fulfilling my own orders, no problems thus far, except from one.
I have a customer not very happy at all as Evri ran into a problem with their delivery.
The customer claims he was in all day and there was no knock on the door.
Yesterday the same customer was complaining about the length of time for delivery, to which I advised the order was still within the delivery window and is not late yet. He was asking for a refund yesterday.
What should I do in this situation?
I used standard shipping, evri drop off, I shipped on time.
I suspect the customer maybe "trying it on" however, his order is now late.
I was considering offering a partial refund...
