VAT exemption for receipt issuance to business customers?

Hi all

I was wondering if anyone can help me with my VAT exemption status specifically in regards to issuing receipts instead of invoices to business customers. In order to have receipts automatically sent to businesses instead of invoices when a business is VAT exempt amazon requires that you meet the following 4 criteria if youre solely selling in the UK as a UK registered business:

  1. You sell goods below the current domestic registration threshold.
  2. You only sell goods that are exempt/not subject to VAT.
  3. You do not store inventory (and/or dispatch goods from) outside the UK.
  4. You do not act as the importer of records when dispatching goods to an EU-based customer

I definitely meet all requirements apart from 2, which i am unsure of so i am worried about having these receipts sent to customers as i may be fraudulently doing so.

However the alternative is to issue invoices and have VAT charged on my products but i dont have a VAT number.

Not entirely sure where i stand and if i dont issue a receipt or invoice to business customers then my account could be deactivated.

Has anyone else encountered this issue in the past? Some advice on this would be appreciated.

You can declare your VAT exempt status and Amazon will upload the receipt s for all orders marked as from Business customers.
Click on the second blue link in the notification below.

Amazon generated invoices (recommended)

Amazon can generate VAT invoices or receipts on your behalf at no cost and make them available for customers to download. VAT registered sellers can activate the VAT Calculation Service and benefit from automated invoice generation. Sellers exempt from VAT registration in both the EU and the UK can declare their VAT exemption status and benefit from automated receipt generation.

This will only work for future orders, so you may need to create receipts for any received so far.
Many of us used www.invoice-generator.com
You then need to download to your device, and upload to Amazon on your ‘shipped orders’ page.
Do not mention VAT on the receipt, or you can just put in the box something like ‘No VAT charged as not VAT registered’ if you want.

I think the list of four items from Amazon is a little confusing, however if your sales are below the threshold and you have not voluntarily registered for VAT, then you automatically comply with number 2, as if you are not VAT registered, then the items you sell are not subject to VAT.

Certainly do not go this route, as you will be comitting VAT fraud, allowing customers to claim back VAT that they have not actually paid. To be honest I dont think this would be possible anyway, as for Amazon to issue a VAT invoice on your behalf they would have to insert your VAT number which clearly they could not as you dont have one.
