IOSS Enquiry

Hello!

Our company used to sell to the EU, but we stopped due to Brexit and now no longer have an IOSS. I’ve recently found out we can use Amazon’s IOSS to ship internationally, but my boss is concerned about Tax Returns. Can anyone shed some light on selling with Amazon’s IOSS? Is it easy? Do I have to do Tax Returns for our accountant? (also, I have asked my accountant, but she said she didn’t know sigh)

What do you mean by you no longer have an IOSS?

You treat EU sales now in the same way as all international sales. You only need to do tax returns for Countries that you store stock and supply from.

Amazon now charge and take the tax and you post it under the IOSS of Amazon for qualifying orders. Orders that fall outside the scope of IOSS, you send out on a DDP basis and the tax is taken care of that way. There is no more accountancy for Europe as there is if you supply anywhere in the World.

Obviously, you can only use Amazon’s IOSS number on orders that either you or they fulfil from the Amazon platform. It’s quite straightforward for accounting purposes because Amazon collect and remit the VAT in the destination country for you. So it is important that your accountant knows that these orders were exports and therefore no UK Vat is payable on their supply.
One important note is that IOSS only works up to a ceiling of, I think, around Eur 135 but another forum member may know the exact amount.
Hopefully this helps.
