Sole trader VAT exemption issue

Does anyone else have any ideas.

Amazon are requesting proof of being a sole trader from HMRC in order to process exemption of the VAT added onto service fees:

- explicit letter from HMRC (in your name) confirming the status as a sole trader

- OR self-employed'or else a completed tax return however you will not have this this until the following tax year in your first year of trading

Once you register for self assessment with HMRC as a sole trader all you get is a UTR confirmation letter however amazon will not accept this as proof

Does anyone know another document from HRMC that can be obtained in the first year of trading as a sole trader that can be used?? I am sure i am not alone with this issue

They do usually accept the letter confirming your UTR, so cannot understand why they are asking for more ?

You can declare your own VAT exempt status by going to Tax Settings in the dropdown from your Account info. - unless they have changed the requirements. ?

Just been on the phone to HMRC and they categorically told me they would not do a letter stating I am a sole trader as they can't prove whether I am or not.

I feel this is going to be a headache for me as my SA showed a higher turnover for 2022/2023 when I was in VAT - now I have become exempt since.

I am going to get a VAT de-activation letter so that should be fine (they don't issue certificates).

I also have a SA - Tax Calculation letter and on page 2, it says 'profit from self employment' but whether this will be enough, I'm not sure.

Will be going back to my MP if not.
