Seeking Advice: Amazon Inaction on Clear Evidence of Competitor Misconduct
Dear Sellers,
I’m reaching out to the community for advice after encountering a frustrating situation with a competitor engaging in unethical practices. Despite providing Amazon with extensive evidence, they have declined to take action, claiming that the evidence is insufficient.
The Issue
A competitor has been intentionally sabotaging our business by:
Posting fake reviews: An employee of this competitor purchased our product, left a false negative review, and then returned the product.
Damaging our reputation: The review included fabricated claims to undermine the quality and compliance of our product.
Evidence Submitted to Amazon
Here’s what I provided to Amazon:
Competitor Information: Detailed information linking the reviewer to the competitor’s company.
Order and Review Records: Proof that the reviewer was connected to the competitor and acted maliciously.
Employment Details: Documentation confirming the reviewer’s role within the competitor’s organization.
Purchase and Return Evidence: Records that clearly show the pattern of malicious intent.
Amazon's Response
Despite this level of detail, Amazon’s response was that they cannot take action due to “insufficient evidence.” This has been incredibly disheartening, as I have gone to great lengths to provide a clear and comprehensive case.
My Concerns
It feels like Amazon is placing an unreasonable burden on sellers to act as investigators. If this level of evidence isn’t enough, what more can I do to protect my business?
Seeking Advice
I would greatly appreciate insights from the community:
Have you faced a similar issue, and how did you resolve it?
What steps can I take to escalate this matter further?
Are there better ways to ensure Amazon acts on such clear violations of policy?
Final Thoughts
Amazon’s lack of action is deeply concerning and leaves sellers vulnerable to unethical competitors. I’m hopeful that others in the community might have advice or suggestions for next steps.
Thank you in advance for your support!

If I had the level of evidence you suggest you have my solicitor would be sending the company concerned and each of it's directors a letter before action. You can be proactive or wait and hope Amazon takes some action at some point in the future.

Hmmn, the problem is with cases like this is that although Amazon is aware that this sort of sabotage happens, it is very difficult to prove.
I have had the same and although some do slip through the net you have to take it on the chin. Other times, I have had Amazon get in contact with me to state that reviews have been made from bad actors without even me being aware so there must be some sort of system in place to recoginise this.
It is very unfortunate but you have to roll with the punches and not concern yourself with this type of behaviour. Being ethical will end up shining through. Report it by all means but do not expect Amazon to give you an idea of what they have done in the background, they may actually do stiuff that you may not be aware of given the facts.
Concentrate on selling and be the best you can be, Amazon is a machine built on artificail intelligence and rigid policy so please do not expect empathy or any kind of special treatment or recognition for your efforts. Be very matter of fact, give them the information and move on. Don't fall into the trap of allowing this to consume you otherwise the behaviour you are trying to deal with will end up beating you.
Once you report to Amazon, it is now there problem. You have no control so do not try and fix the areas that you cannot control. Report it and move on, you have done everything you can so the time is to be more proactive and keep ahead of the game, you will not change the way that Amazon operates.
I don't really have much as far as insight but a lot of experience. Many issues especially of this nature do not get resolved whilst pushing the issue, it tends to just come out in the wash. There are no better ways to ensure Amazon does anything other than reporting it and mention on the forums so you have already covered all bases. Time to now push on and feel satisfied that you have made all the steps.Anything that happens from now in will be a bonus.
