Buyer address incorrect
I have sold an item to a buyer and the order has 2 different 1st line addresses neither of which are in the Royal Mail postcode database. The buyer has not responded to our messages to get the correct address. So, I thought I will chat with support as I have never had this before. Told them I have sold and item and the order has the wrong address so can I cancel the order. They came back with buyers cannot cancel an order once it has been dispatched! I explained again and they came back with you can cancel the order but it will affect you cancellation metric. Why should it affect my metrics when I have a buyer too dumb to get their address correct. Has anyone else had this

The rules were..eventually stated to you correctly.
Any cancellation will hit your Pre-fulfillment Cancellation Metric unless the buyer sends an official cancellation request.
The reason being - if they allowed a cancellation for incorrect address that didn't impact that metric - that is what all sellers would choose to do.
If your metrics can take it - just do the cancellation. Alternatively, you could mark as despatched using Self Delivery, then refund.

This might be an attempt at a scam if there are 2 different first lines, but even if you do cancel, it will only remain on your 'pre-fulfilment cancellation rate' metric for 7 days, so if you haven't had to cancel any other orders, then it will be fine. You could message the customer and tell them to re-order making sure the correct address is provided.

Try not to jump to judgemental, I've seen similar 'odd' addresses before and it has transpired to be an overseas buyer gifting (or attempting to) someone in the UK without understanding how addresses work here. Not replying to messages may also be a language barrier issue.
Just send the buyer a polite message explaining the problem and cancel the order as 'address undeliverable' you'll only see it on your cancellation metric for 7 days.

Yes, constantly,y and if you cancel the order, it will affect your metric, so the advice from thirtythreeandathird and JillyB is spot on.

We have LOTS of incorrect, or incomple addresses.
LOTS also now only have a First name, so anyone called 'John' live in this block of flats?
Amazon should, but won't, resolve and make Buyers put both names and only send to correct addresses, or accept liability if then mis-delivered.
I suggest to use Buy Shipping, and pay for Signed For and Fully Tracked.
Ensure you add a label on the parcel to only leave with the Buyer (state name).
Remind on another label that it is a signed for service
Put your return address on the parcel.
That way, your metrics are ok, send on time of course and on a service that will deliver on time.
(As usual, this was suggested for me to read/respond by Amazon, but the Seller wanted advice 2 days ago!)
