OP, this has been talked about on all major news stations since before the holidays. The price of stamps at the Post Office increased as well. USPS raises prices multiple times a year now, write your congress person or blame inflation.

The cost to ship your letters and packages is going to increase this weekend.

The rate hikes from the U.S. Postal Service, first announced in November, are set to take effect on Sunday, Jan. 21.

The Postal Service is raising the cost of First-Class Forever postage stamps for letters from 66 cents to 68 cents. First-Class Mail Postcards will cost 2 cents more, from 51 cents to 53 cents.

The cost of stamps for international letters and postcards will increase by 5 cents, from $1.50 to $1.55.

Along with stamp increase, USPS is also hiking up prices for some package shipping services. USPS Ground Advantage cost will go up 5.4%, Priority Mail will increase by 5.7% and Priority Mail Express will go up 5.9%.

WASHINGTON, DC — Today, the United States Postal Service filed notice with the Postal Regulatory Commission (PRC) of mailing services price changes to take effect Jan. 21, 2024. The new rates include a 2-cent increase in the price of a First-Class Mail Forever stamp, from 66 cents to 68 cents.

The proposed adjustments, approved by the governors of the Postal Service, would raise mailing services product prices approximately 2 percent. If favorably reviewed by the commission, the price changes would include:

U.S. Postal Service Proposes New Prices for 2024

Product

Current Prices

Planned Prices

Letters (1 ounce)

66 cents

68 cents

$1.55

There will be no change to the additional-ounce price, which remains at 24 cents. The Postal Service is also seeking price adjustments for Special Services products including Certified Mail, Post Office Box rental fees, money order fees and the cost to purchase insurance when mailing an item.

As inflationary pressures on operating expenses continue and the effects of a previously defective pricing model are still being felt, these price adjustments are needed to provide the Postal Service with much needed revenue to achieve the financial stability sought by its Delivering for America 10-year plan. The prices of the Postal Service remain among the most affordable in the world.

The PRC will review the changes before they are scheduled to take effect. The complete Postal Service price filing, with prices for all products, can be found on the PRC website under the Daily Listings section at prc.arkcase.com/portal/home. The mailing services filing is Docket No. R2024-1. The price tables are also available on the Postal Service’s Postal Explorer website at pe.usps.com/PriceChange/Index.

While everyone here is going on about this was mentioned weeks ago, etc... what really is the hidden and underlining * ISSUE * (is AMAZON wont adjust for the price increase) Also in the news, was how Amazon flooded USPS for the last mile because UPS didnt want to do it. This has caused an increase in DNR, because of the delays. Eventually as prices increase due to inflation and other costs, TIME will wipe out sellers as PRICED TOO HIGH - especially if Amazon has buy box on it.

Yes, it's happened every January for at least the last 20 years. Ten years ago or so they started doing it again in the summer and what ... three years ago maybe four? they started doing it a third time for the Christmas holiday. Nothing new.

3rd week every January USPS raises its rate - no secret.

Of course Amazon does NOT adjust your listings accordingly (as every other platform does). You have to manually go and change your rates or risk losing money on postage (Amazon will still take its "taxes" as they call it in shipping).

But Amazon will change your handling time to 1-day and not allow a global reset - you will have to spend hours resetting to a more reasonable time oa 2 days one listing at a time.

even tho they do annual price increases, reliability and efficiency is still 80:20 (80% gets delivered on time to correct address, 20% will not). that new guy de joy was supposed to increase postal efficiency and cut their annual deficit...but all he's done is raise rates, and officially slowed down the speed of delivery. now they say it takes 2 days to ship to seattle (1.5hr drive from me) so the GA (ground advantage) package is left lying around until day 2 before it gets delivered (it had always been 'next day' delivery). recently the usps said it could take 19 days to ship to hawaii from location 1.5hrs N of seattle - but they did it in a break neck speed of 14 days (yahoo!). it used to take no more than 3- 5 days 1st class package in the old days :) shipping to TX by GA (ground advantage) always takes 5 - 6 days, but GA to VA most of the time takes 2 - 3 days... usps logic defies logic :)

i don't ship thousands of packages, so i can always see how 20% of my packages seem to go on a 'tour of the usa' before being delivered (and increasing potential for amazon customers to claim A-Z). the recent a-z claim was because package went WA - TN - TX - TN - CA - WA - OR over a 17 day period!!! i now see that priority mail packages often take as long (or longer) than GA packages (shipped same day to same city), so even tho the label says P, they seem to just dump them in with GA packages (and naturally pocket the difference in cost of P vs GA). I now affix a PRIORITY label to the P packages (these labels are still free from usps website) and that seems to help usps sort them appropriately. i never had to do that in years gone by where it was just 1st class package or priority package.

unfortunately, for small orders, usps is still the best price around, and sometimes their P pricing is a little less than ups/fedex (and boasts a faster delivery time - officially). we just have to adjust selling prices to accommodate the increase costs of shipping, and pray for the promised 'efficiency' at the usps.

That's why I de-listed all my lowest price book inventory. It's just not worth it anymore.
