As long as you are a UK resident, you only need to be VAT registered once your turnover reaches £90,000. I think they get so used to non-UK residents not understanding that if using FBA to store their goods in UK that they need to be VAT registered here. As above reply, whatever you have been told is NOT correct.

No, it's not correct. You don't need to be VAT registered as long as your turnover falls below the annual VAT threshold. You do need to be VAT registered if you want to claim your VAt back on the fees.

Doing FBA with quite a low turnover and considering the costs of FBA, I would seriously thing about your business model though. The advantages to not being VAt registered have diminished a little lately and some are reviewing the high costs of entry level taxes which are now being passed onto the sellers.
