Unreasonable return request

Hi folks. Just wondered what you would do in this situation.

A customer purchased two T Shirts from me, a week later I’m contacted by a third party acting on behalf of the customer saying that the shirts had dirt on them and the buyer wanted a refund.

I asked for the shirts to be returned for a full refund but the ‘third party’ says that the customer is unable to return the shirts and wanted them picked up from him (he’s in Belfast and I’m in Cardiff).

I asked for photos but the buyer couldn’t supply them.

I have been selling on Amazon for about 10 years and have had 2 A-Z’s against me in the past month from unreasonable buyers so fearing another I have just refunded. Below are some messages sent between us.

Hello,
We’ve been contacted by one of our mutual customers regarding an order placed with you.
Below is the information provided by the customer:

Details: customer alled in stating that he wanted his items to actually be collected seeing that he doesn’t have the option to get out and have it returned himself

Return reason: The item is damaged but the box or envelope is undamaged
Customer comments:
-there are dirt on the shirts

The 3rd party is Amazon Customer Services.

Just treat as a normal return, accept it as normal. You are not obligated to collect it. Make sure you don’t refuse it otherwise you will lose the case.

This is a standard awkward customer claim. They either advise they cannot get out and have no way to take a picture. Usually they claim to be 80+ years old etc. Its just a way to be as difficult as possible. They want free stuff.

Accept the return request and then supply a free returns label. Get your stuff back do not refund you just pass it down to the next seller when they try again. As long as you accept the returns request and have a tracking number attached to the order any A-Z should be closed when the item is returned and you refund.

We had a run of these for about 6 months and once we stopped just refunding with out getting the items back they stopped trying it on.
