Can I hold a German VAT Registration and a UK VAT Exemption at the same time?

We are an FBA business and currently under the UK VAT Threshold. Our UK VAT exemption is registered with Amazon. We are looking to import some stock to Germany and will need to get VAT registered there for that purpose. To enrol in VAT services on Amazon it looks like we need to deregister our UK VAT exemption? Has anyone had to do this and is there a way we can hold both a UK exemption and a German VAT Registration?

I believe, that to actually register for German VAT, you need to hold UK VAT anyway.
So no, it won’t be possible to exempt one and not the other.

But frankly, if your not at the point of registering for UK vat, are you really sure that it’s worth expanding to the EU? Why not use EFN or ship directly for now, until your sales justify the additional cost.

the answer is no - its says on the vat page that in order to register your ‘exemption’ you are certifying that you are not required to be registered in UK OR EU for VAT

as Neil says too, if you are not required to register for UK VAT, you really need to consider if expanding is worth it
