Amazon packaging question - cardboard envelopes
Hi,
I sell a range of folded posters (A2 posters folded to A4) and fulfilled by FBA.
I currently send them to Amazon in a cardboard-backed envelope (eg: https://www.kitepackaging.co.uk/scp/postal-envelopes/all-board-and-board-backed-envelopes/), so Amz can just stick the label on and send them out to customers.
To cut costs, I am contemplating sending them to Amazon in a polybag (eg: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Self-adhesive-Cellophane-Sealable-Env).
If I do this, will Amazon then put them in a coardboard envelope to ship to the customer? Or will they just slap a label on the bag (in which case the product would arrive to the customer in a poor condition)?
If they do put them in a cardbord envelope, will they charge me extra for it? Or is this already covered in my FBA fees?
Thanks,
Rob

They could ship them out in the bag , and they’ll no doubt be crushed, creased and bent just in fba warehouses

I send in wrapping paper, same idea, folded to A4 size.
I just send them in poly bags, as far as I aware Amazon have never shipped them in the bag, and they have never been damaged in the warehouse, of course people would be more forgiving if their rapping paper got a bit dogeared or creased, they would not be as accepting if it was a poster

I believe Amazon will ship them, as is, in whatever packaging has the FNSKU label on. If you bag them, that is the unit item for them to ship, as is. They aren’t going to unpack them and put them into envelopes for you. Unless I have misunderstood your question?

I think there are likely to be more damages by Amazon if you do not send in board back envelopes.
I sell cards and Amazon do bend the odd one. It appears to happen in the warehouse as I get the odd bent one when I do a removal order. It also happens on delivery when a courier bends the envelope to put it through the door.
The cost of putting these into board back envelopes though to prevent this wouldn’t be financially sensible. It would cost more to send a shipment in and the fulfilment fees could well be higher. The overall monthly cost would be more than I would give in refunds in a month.
With yours there is no guarantee how Amazon will ship them. I would expect it to be in a cardboard envelope but I know with some of my clothing range it is often just in the poly bag. Therefore your damages may increase as a result of you changing.
However if your damages stay low after changing and only increase by 1 or 2 units a month it maybe financially sensible. For example if your damages result in a refund of £50 but you are saving £100 by using different packaging then it is worth it.
If it was me I would try a single SKU to see if the damages increased or not. I would then make a decision on how to proceed.
