Experiences with gift messaging

We implemented the Amazon gift messaging service on a number of our products yesterday and we received our first gift messaged order today. We charge a small fee for this service on our website to take into account the cost of a gift tag and the time to print the message onto the tag etc etc. However, as we can’t charge for this service and cover the costs of the gift tag on Amazon, our understanding is that general practice is to just send the packing slip with the gift message on it with the order. It looks a bit crummy but I was wondering what other seller’s experience of this is? Do customers complain?

If they don’t, they should.

If you have specific steps that say you offer gift messaging then I would expect it to be more than just printed on a packing slip.

If it was expected/acceptable to print on packing slips then Amazon would be offering it as a standard service with all orders.

Does anyone know where can I opt in to allow my buyers insert a gift message into their order’s packing slip?

We print the messages on a little card - as we had a complaint about it being on the packing slip - despite Amazon saying that’s where it is!

We print them on the packing slip as this is where Amazon states where the message will be printed. Do get the occasional complaint but saves us a massive job of printing separate messages for each order. My favourite is the rants saying that they have paid extra for a gift message and expect it printed in a card… UMMM NO!!! You didn’t pay extra and no where says you will be receiving a free card. (Obviously we reply much more politely than this!!)

I understand to be just like a gift receipt but with a personalised message I.e. obscures the price. I usually fold the slip so it’s the first thing the recipient would see but only go to the trouble of reprinting or using a tag if they pay for gift wrapping. I have found as mentioned, that most orders with gift message go to the buyer anyway and/or appear to have been left by default/accident too.
