Brand Registry Application Process - What's the most challenging step?

Dear Sellers,

As we all know, enrolling in Amazon's Brand Registry program is crucial for protecting a brand's intellectual property rights and gaining access to powerful brand-building tools.

However, the application process can be challenging, especially for those new to the program.

In this thread, I would like to walk you through the brand registry application process and share some tips to help make it smoother.

But before we dive in, I'm curious to hear from you:

What has been the most challenging step in the brand registry application process for you?

Was it gathering the required documentation, understanding the eligibility criteria, or something else?

Please share your experiences and pain points, as this will help us address the common blockers and provide targeted guidance.

Here's an overview of the brand registry application process: Brand Registry Application Guide.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, experiences, and any tips or tricks you have!

I have recently gone through the process of Brand registry after registering our trade mark through the IPO office. I would say that there is lots and lots of new learning to do as a seller but we are slowly getting our heads round it and we are starting to utilise the additional benefits of registering.

I would say it is worth going through the process but and this is a big but for us, we cannot change any of our listings before we registered our brand. So to to be clear for anyone, we sell on the Handmade section and have done for a couple of years, so every product we listed are created by us are new to Amazon, when listing the product the "generic" brand is associated with the listing as this was the only one we could select.

After going brand registry on Amazon the "generic" brand cannot be updated which to me seem pointless, I have gone round and round in circles with seller support and cannot get anywhere other than to be told to create a new listing and select my Brand..... so I would then have 2 listings one with and one with out my brand. The new listing would not have any of the reviews or the positioning when customer search for my products.

So if you have lots of listings that sell well and have reviews doing brand registry is only for new products moving forward, surely existing products should be updated as part of the brand registry

I completed brand registry only to find that my existing listed products could not have their brand changed from generic to the new registered brand without deleing them and re-entering.

These products have ratings and reviews obtained at great expense, and I simply will not delete them. The loss to me from starting again with these products under the brand is greater than the gain of having them listed under the new brand.

The sales funnel you have for new sellers only pushes brand registry after products have already been listed - so any new seller will have a problem when updating their products to their brand.

For me brand registry was a waste of effort, time and money. It is useless to me since my products are already listed without the brand. I am unable to access the benefits of registering my brand for these products if I cant update the brand.

Being unable to easily update products to a brand from generic is obviously as dumb as hell. Just another way amazon makes sellers lives harder than they need to be.

Subject: Feedback on Challenges Faced During Brand Registry Process

Dear Amazon Brand Registry Team @Simon_Amazon

I hope this email finds you well.

We are writing to provide feedback regarding the challenges we have encountered while attempting to register our brand with Amazon.

In May 2022, we successfully registered our brand name with the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) and were granted a trademark. Following this, we promptly applied for Amazon Brand Registry, submitting all the necessary documentation and filling in the required information as per your guidelines.

To our surprise, our initial application was rejected without any explanation. We promptly appealed this decision, providing additional details and clarifications. However, our appeal was also rejected, and we were informed that there would be no further opportunity to appeal.

This outcome seems wholly unfair for several reasons:

Established Company and Brand: We have been directors of our company for many years and have consistently operated with integrity and professionalism.

Legal Trademark: We hold a valid trademark for our brand, issued by the IPO, which we believe should meet Amazon's criteria for brand registration.

Strong Track Record with Amazon: Our company has maintained an excellent health record with Amazon. We have been selling our own products, which are exclusively manufactured and produced by our company under the brand name registered with the IPO.

We respectfully request that our case be reviewed once more. We believe that we meet all the necessary criteria for brand registration and would appreciate a clearer understanding of the reasons behind the rejection. We value our partnership with Amazon and are eager to resolve this matter in a fair and transparent manner.
