Claiming back import VAT - Germany/Amazon VAT services

Hi

I a considering selling in Germany and to do this I’d also be signing up for amazon VAT services.

As well as my transaction-level vat calculations etc, does Amazon VAT services have an option for me to claim back German import VAT?

You can’t send FBA stock to Germany unless you have fiscal representation in Germany, as in boots on the ground.

It’s much easier to send to France where no representation is required. Have you checked through this forum? There are lots of posts about it giving great advice. France also doesn’t charge you import VAT so there is none to reclaim.

It says:

Germany - VAT agent required with no shared liability

I wouldn’t trust anything Avalara says.

I got mine back from France fairly quickly. I use Avask not Avalara.

Avalara has far too many horror stories attached to them.

Yes you can claim back the import vat.

Start of every month you need to add them to the filing report. Thats how we do it.

However then you will need to talk to German VAT office and supply them a bank account and a form to get them paid back, and it takes about 3 weeks.
