Unrelated Variations Used to Manipulate Reviews – Need a solution

Hi everyone,I’ve come across a competitor who is listing unrelated products as variations under the same parent ASIN. This is allowing them to combine reviews across completely different products, which gives an unfair advantage and misleads customers.I’ve already tried reporting it through Seller Support and the "Report a violation" form, but unfortunately, no action has been taken so far.Has anyone successfully dealt with this kind of issue?Any tips on how to get Amazon to take this seriously?

Following up on your post. Amazon has recently strengthened their variation relationship policies, but enforcement often requires detailed documentation and escalation.

My advice for you will be to submit through Brand Registry using "Report a Violation" tool, specifically citing:

  • Use terms like "review manipulation" and "customer misleading content"
  • Consider submitting examples to Amazon's Product Review Abuse team

On investigation provide if possible all documentation such as:

  • Take screenshots of all incorrect variations
  • Document how the products differ (size, color, and function are the only valid variation themes for most categories)
  • Save URLs and ASINs of all involved listings
  • Capture examples of review manipulation across variations

Continue to document all pricing changes and buy box manipulation as evidence if applies. This type of situation typically requires persistent escalation through multiple channels before resolution is achieved.

Additional tips:

  • Focus on customer impact rather than competitor complaints
  • Provide specific examples of customer confusion in reviews
  • Reference any relevant category-specific variation rules

Keep track of all case numbers and follow up consistently. Sometimes it takes multiple attempts through different channels before getting the right attention.

If you need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to our support channel.
