Customer wants full refund for late shipment

A customer purchased my item on Feb 4th, I purchased a label from amazon with USPS the same day, and took it to USPS office Feb 5th in the morning. They scanned it and gave me a receipt. It's been 10 days and this customer still hasn't received the product and want a refund. I understand their frustration and would want the same thing in their shoes.

Who is responsible for the refund? I did everything from my end to ensure they receive my shipment on time. Does amazon protect me in this case? Or do I still owe a refund to the customer? If so, how can I avoid this issue in the future? Im sure I will have similar issues like this, and there is nothing I can do to prevent this. Giving refund to everyone that doesn't receive my package on time is unsustainable.

First off, report the package as missing to USPS. Upper right screen, HELP>Find Missing Mail.

Do NOT refund the package yourself.

Inform the customer they should file an A to Z for PACKAGE NOT RECEIVED. Assuming you did everything right (bought claims protected shipping through Amazon and shipped on time), Amazon will cover this loss (although they may deny it at first...typical procedure around here).

You can't avoid this in the future. You have no control over USPS.

You are responsible for the refund. If you're asking that question, you need to review Seller University. This should not be a question if you've been selling for any length of time. If you used Amazon buy shipping they MIGHT cover it, but I would not guarantee that. If you did not use Amazon buy shipping they will not help you at all.
