Do I have to be VAT registered for FBA?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I’m reading conflicting answers.
I’m in the UK only selling to the UK and just starting so nowhere near 85k turnover. I want to sell my one item via FBA…
Do I have to register for VAT?
Thank you …

No you don’t need to be VAT registered if you are from the UK, storing in the UK and under the threshold (I’m not).

A NETP is an individual whose normal place of residence is outside the UK or a corporate body that is incorporated outside the UK and has no “establishment” in the UK. These persons must register with HMRC as soon as they expect to be making taxable supplies in the UK which cannot be dealt with under the reverse charge procedure.

and all your stock is currently in the UK.
Are you a British Citizen/Resident or a person eligible to operate a UK Business and is your account with amazon.co.uk?

I’d presume the response from Amazon is based upon the ID submitted when registering the Seller account hence the NETP response from Seller Support?

Yes, UK based and resident … just starting up within the UK only …

In that case you do not need to be VAT registered until you reach the threshold, the response received from Seller Support is incorrect and indicates your a NETP where you are not, you should raise another case or reopen this case to clarify the position.

If you haven’t already it might help if you register with HMRC as self-employed and supply your UTR to Amazon. This will provide evidence that you are tax resident in the UK so don’t need to register for VAT to use FBA.
