Hello.
A customer has told us that there printer bought from us has stopped working. They have tried all methods we have suggested such as updating software, new cable, new labels etc but the item is still not working. They are not happy and insist that we take the product back, is this right based on the time line of 1 year and 7 months since she has had the product?
The initial item was brought through FBA.
I would like some advice please as we have not dealt with this situation before, for an item to become faulty over 1 year 7 months!

After 6 months, the onus is on the buyer to prove the item was faulty. Is there any form of warranty or guarantee that extends to 2 years with the product?
you can suggest a repair option which will be at the buyers expense if the item is found to have developed the fault after 6 months of use unless covered by a guarantee.
Warranties are generally 12 months, if it comes with a 2 year warranty the first year is with the seller and the second is with the manufacturer, refer your buyer to the manufacturer and you do not need to do anything further.
I would refer the customer to the manufacturer as the warranty will lie with them. I buy canon printers for my business and they have a 2 year warranty so i go through them if there are any issues. There can be many factors why the printer is not working - if it hasnt been used in a period of time the print head can dry up etc.
Expecting to return for a replacement or refund after this period of time is unreasonable and i would politely tell the customer that they need to contact the printer manufacturer as it falls under their warranty procedure.
FBA, all the buyer needs to do is complain to Amazon customer service they will grant the return no matter what. The customer will get a refund once Amazon receives something from them or gets notified of a first scan. FBA will then send you the return and you can then try your luck appealing with Amazon SS for reimbursement.
Good luck
Warranty for electrical items under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is 6 years in the UK.I would take the item back & refund.
This is why the "No Response Needed" button was invented :)
Is it an HP printer? If so, then mine stopped working after about a year and a half I tried for about an hour and then gave up, nipped to Curry's bought the latest one and I still have issues with the new one.
Somehow the HP printer assist isn't working correctly and seems to tell the printer to stop working with 1/4 the amount of ink left and also somehow, after a Microsoft update, the flight mode was switched ON. Scan doctor says everything is perfect with it, but it just adds everything to a print queue. I think there is something weird going on with HP following the Microsoft update.
Might be irrelevant, but just in case it helps! (I have a very old plug in Epson printer to it's side now as it does it so often!)

In the UK, if a printer stops working within six months of purchase, the retailer is generally responsible for addressing the issue. Here are the key points to consider under the Consumer Rights Act 2015
Consumer Rights: The law states that goods must be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. If a printer fails to meet these standards within six months, it's assumed that the fault was present at the time of purchase.
Burden of Proof: During the first six months, the burden of proof lies with the retailer. This means that if the printer malfunctions, the retailer must demonstrate that it was not faulty at the time of sale.
Remedies: If the printer is found to be faulty, the retailer is obligated to offer a remedy, which could include:
Repairing the printer.
Replacing it with a new one.
Providing a refund.
After Six Months: After six months, the burden of proof shifts to the buyer, meaning that the buyer would need to demonstrate that the fault existed at the time of purchase.
Consumer Protection: It's advisable to keep the receipt and any warranty information, as this can help support your claim if you need to seek a remedy.
In summary, if a printer stops working within six months of purchase in the UK, the retailer is typically responsible for resolving the issue.
