Do All EAN or UPC Barcodes Need To Be Covered with Merchant SKU?

Hi All,

I have a query relating to manufacturers EAN or UPC barcodes.

I have sent thousands of items into Amazon FBA UK using the original EAN or UPC barcodes which correlates to the product without any issue.

However, from time to time Amazon have pulled a few titles and units penalising me with a 36p fine for each unit, explaining that they haven’t got my unique merchant SKU barcode covering the original EAN or UPC manufacturers barcode.

If that were so and true, why is it on occasions I’m penalised and other times much is let through using the original barcodes with no problem at all?

A little confused on what Amazon’s stance is and if it’s cherry picked for error at certain stages why this isn’t so for all of my shipment?

Regards

Some items are not eligible for the manufacturer’s barcode and can be only shipped into FBA with FNSKU labels, in such case you will need to cover the EAN/UPC codes with the ones generated by Amazon.

I would agree with Kika about always labelling products. When products aren’t labelled, the product Amazon send to a a customer may not be one of the ones you sent in.

If a buyer then complains that the product is a fake or used, Amazon penalise your account and not the seller who originally sent it in.

Things seem to have changed since beginning of July, and Amazon have already tried to apply a First Instance Fee to me last week, which I am currently appealing due to inconsistent advice during the shipment creation / labelling process. My fee was £3.60 for 24 units (first instance)
