International Shipping

I can’t remember (or find) if I have posted this question before (apologies if I have) or if it has simply been in my mind to post, but I just wondered if anyone had any guidance on international shipping.

I have a RM business account and would send international tracked and signed. Am I correct in thinking that the only other thing I need to do is to attach a customs label and fill in the correct fields? So other than additional shipping costs and the customs label there is nothing else to do and I drop it in the bag as normal?

Many thanks

  1. In C&D goto Settings, Trading Names. Setup a new Trading name called ‘IOSS Amazon’. Enter all the details (your name, address, VAT number, etc). Then drop down the menu that reads ‘Pre-registration tax schemes & IOSS’, add in IOSS (EU) then beside it enter the number IM4420001201 which is the Amazon IOSS number.

  2. In C&D, goto Settings, Default Customs Information. Enter default settings and click the tick box ‘Automatically sign and date customs documents’. You can then upload a jpg of your signature so you dont have to physically sign them afterwards.

  3. All your items in your inventory will require a HS Code. There are tools to help you find the code but tbh they are not much use. Instead try to get the HS Code from your suppliers (much easier)

  4. As you sell items and need to dispatch Internationally. C&D will need the HS code entering. It will remember the code so this only needs to be done once per product on the first international shipment.

  5. Select the correct international service (please note not all are IOSS compatible so make sure you are using correct one) - I think International Tracked & Signed is MTE but check.

  6. When you print your labels, C&D will now print the customs form for you. Attach both to parcel and bag your parcels accordingly to whatever you have been told (usually different services and zones require different bags)

Sorry for being confusing. Using the Bay as an example, I am signed up for Global Shipping and when I get a sale it has no VAT applied. So for example, a £5 item sells for £4 (I know that isn’t exact) even though I have it listed at £5. This is automatically deducted for an international sale. If I were to sell the same item on my own site, would I have to reduce the item to £4 or would I simply make more profit on the item?

Thank you for the RM info response. Yes, that makes sense that RM calculate the exempt VAT etc, which I then input in my accounts each month.

Thank you
