Reverification issue - power of attorney
Hi All,
Anyone got any suggestions about a reverification issue? I’ve been selling on Amazon for around 11 years, I’m a sole trader, in the UK and completed verification many years ago. I’m registered with HMRC as self employed, UTR letter provided years ago, and haven’t had any issues with the account. None of my personal or banking details have changed since opening the account.
A few days ago I received a performance notification requesting additional documents to continue verification. The substantive part of the notification read:
“What type of document do I need to provide? Business verification documents: – One of the following documents issued by HM Revenue; Customs (HMRC) within the last year: - Class 2 National Insurance Contributions (NICs) Bill - Online VAT Certificate - Self-Assessment notice to complete a tax return - Letter confirming your Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) number - Self Assessment Statement - Short Tax Return.”
On going to Account Info “Identify information” is highlighted in red. Going into this section the Primary Contact box states “Successfully submitted all the mandatory details” but the Power of Attorney section states that the document is required.
I generated a power of attorney using the template - all the details on that document match those on my account and uploaded it as a PDF. The power of attorney is dated 16/6/2023. After a couple of days I got another performance notification with the same details as noted above but which also states:
“Why is this happening?
The BUSINESS DOCUMENT you provided was expired.”
Clearly the POA isn’t expired as it’s only 4 days old!
The error given in the Power of Attorney section of Identify Information just says:
undefined - Power of Attorney
- Invalid Document
I’ve tried to contact Support but a chat session won’t start and the email option is greyed out.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Andy

its actually proof of UTR number they want
you need to either upload a UTR confirmation number letter from HMRC or, your reminder to do your tax return which you should’ve received roughly a month or 2 ago - preferably this as apparently, the HMRC SA phoneline is closed until Sept

There are many have received the same over the past few weeks (myself included), and they are just confusing things by asking for Power of Attorney - that is NOT what they need !!!
Your letter of ‘Notice to complete Tax return’ or a recent letter confirming UTR will be accepted, and just upload via the Power of Attorney button ! - but as said above, apparently the HMRC phone lines are no longer active, apparently due to the number of requests from Amazon sellers for the paper letter !

Yes, the system is ludicrously confusing, especially as it’s such an important request that only comes around every few years. It shouldn’t be necessay to search the forums just to figure out how to respond to it. But that’s Amazon…
There have been quite a few threads on this.
