UTR requirement

hi,

i was selling as an individual then was asked to change the business type. i have changed the business type to a sole trader now UTR is required.

I am wondering, can i not sell as an individual rather than sole trader etc without UTR?

Thanks

An individual can only sell off their own used second hand goods

A sole trader is someone who is buying or making goods to sell with the intention of making a profit and as such, should be registered with hmrc and amazon as a sole trader - a business account

If you don’t have a UTR, you’ll need to register with hmrc

This is not to be confused with the individual seller plan which is technically just a shop subscription

No, you must have a UTR and provide that to Amazon to have a Business seller Account - the legal entity.
The Individual Seller Account is ONLY for selling off your own personal second-hand items, such as books, DVDs, CDs etc, and not NEW items.
You must have a Business seller account on Amazon, and MUST be registered with HMRC as self-employed sole-trader, and provide Amazon with your UTR.
‘Individual’ is NOT the same as sole-trader.

thanks all.

I have UTR but it’s for construction industry self employment. i think this existing UTR can not be used for sole trader on amazon and i need to get a new UTR for selling purposes?

thanks again for your time and making things easy to understand.

yeah it does make sense.

my credit card verification is required too but i only sell at UK marketplace. should i verify my credit card for all market places even if i do not sell on those market places? credit card verification required warning still exists but UK marketplace is not in the list of verification.

thanks again.

Hi there,

I got this same email today but I was unable to find where to go in and change the business type. Do you mind sharing what exactly you clicked to be able to change it?

Thanks

If you registered for an INDIVIDUAL Seller Account and not a BUSINESS Account (the legal entity) then you will need to open a case with Seller Support (Help), say you have registered the wrong legal entity and ask for them to open up the option to input your UTR.

Having a nightmare with this, uploaded every document from hmrc, have also now spent an hour getting through to hmrc to get a letter sent out which takes up to 3 weeks, HMRC say that the statement should be enough and nothing else should be required as there is no reason for any more information to be provided, they are going to send me one in the post also, which they stated amazon will be able to make no sence of anyway, absolutely crazy. in the mean time listings blocked.
