Selling FBA from Northern Ireland

Hi Everyone,

I'm a brand new seller, I've just set up my account and am ready to start selling some stuff. However, I'm in a bit of a weird situation in terms of the location that I'm selling from. I'm currently based near London and selling as a sole-trader, but in a few months time I'm going to be moving my business to Northern Ireland and registering as a Limited company.

With Brexit having happened only a couple of years ago, and the constant changes to legislation regarding NI being in the UK and EU, I wanted to find out more about how selling from NI is going to be different to selling from England?

I know someone who sells from England at the moment and he's told me that selling to the EU is really awkward since Brexit due to customs etc, so he sells in the UK only.

From what I've read I gather that I will need to register for VAT and probably XI VAT when I move, and it appears that since amazon doesn't have any warehouses in NI, anything I send to the GB warehouses for sale in the UK cant be returned to my address in NI if it doesn't sell.

I've read some things about references by amazon to the UK (Includes NI), GB(Excludes NI) and Ireland (Grey area) that suggests that being in Northern Ireland will make it either very easy to sell to both the UK and EU, or very hard to sell to both the UK and EU.

So the short question is - what are the changes/sorts of things I will need to look out for when I move to NI and want to keep selling on Amazon?

Thanks in advance!

Northern Ireland is not in the EU - there are other sellers on here who live in NI. As far as I know you do not need to be VAT registered if in NI - but you'd need to check all this out. Hopefully one of the NI sellers will come up with some answers for you !
