Wow, aren't you naive!

we maintained lower fulfillment fees for all low-priced products, lowered referral fees for low-priced apparel items

means

We made sure our Chinese sellers get great incentives

-----------------------------------

record-breaking sales for independent sellers

means

We onboarded hundreds of thousands of sellers from China and tens of thousands of new sellers, that we suspended a few months later , but not before they made us some fees.

-----------------------------------

driving innovation, improving efficiency, and removing defects.

means

We pushed every new thought a wizard had into reality, untested, removed nearly all support people that usually look over submitted compliance and other documents (We'll get back with you next year...) , left all those listings and sellers hanging so we could put personel to work in other areas and hire more fulfillment, to make our numbers look good outward.

-----------------------------------

we will not increase US referral and FBA fees and will not introduce any new fee types.

means

We just hit you all with years worth of extra fees this year, so we'll give you a break for a minute and slap on some more next year. This way, the naive ones of you that have trouble doing accounting, will, think you are not paying more fees this year. Our numbers will still look good though, because we will lose your inventory and claim we never received it, refund you pennies on the dollar IF we take responsibility and one way or another, sell your inventory for a good profit in a little while

I mean its great, but still losing entire boxes upon receipt with little to no recourse. And the new 60 day window to open a claim is too on the nose when they go back a month later and un-receive units after they have been transferred to a new warehouse and you thought the shipment was closed. Continuous improvement is great, but there has been back steps for small sellers.
