Thanks for the nudge. They must have all their ducks in a row. That is unheard of nowadays. However they did state they started selling a week ago could this mean the account was verified a week ago or applied for a week ago?

Back in 2015 some of us applied for a VAT refund due to new EU legislation on our fees:

Starting on 1 January 2015 all “electronically supplied services” which were previously charged the Luxembourg VAT rate of 15% will be charged the VAT based on the member state where the Amazon seller is resident.
To specifically answer your question about VAT refunds, there are only 2 situation when a VAT refund can be considered:

  1. You are in business but you do not have a VAT number. (The seller must provide a Company Registration from HMRC)
  2. You have a VAT number

I did get a refund, going back to when I started (was about £2k as I’m only a small scale seller), but then others who applied later were told they could only get a refund going back 6 years, and then I believe it reduced to 6 months (though as it’s a long time ago, my memory is dim !!)

As we are no longer in EU then I wonder if it is still relevant ??

I do remember some sellers approaching ebay, but they didn’t take it on board.
It will be interesting to see if the current applications do get a refund - guess it might open the floodgates, if so. :hushed:

Just bumping this to give my experience this week regarding VAT refunds. After reading the post I contacted support, gave them my info: VAT certificate, previous years tax returns of when I wasn’t VAT registered etc etc to prove I was running the business and declaring the things they know I’ve been selling on their platform anyway.

After a series of messages I’ve been left with:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,
I am writing concerning your VAT Refund request.
Let me inform you, that we have received the VAT Certificate and it has been validated.
We have begun the VAT refund process on your Seller Fees.
Please bear in mind that, the process may require some time for its conclusion.
Be assured, I shall keep you updated throughout the process.
Thank you for selling with Amazon.

Good luck to anyone doing the same, don’t ask don’t get I guess!
