I absolutely hate amazon

Hi folks

Can anyone assist?

I’m already a seller on uk amazon and am trying to register on .com to sell in the USA.

I got most of the way through the registration process however my perfectly valid passport has been rejected as ID. I’m trying to upload my drivers licence however I cannot change the drop down box from passport to Drivers licence so it keeps getting rejected as ‘not a passport’.

I have tried to raise a case however the robotic nonsense answer is that they cant tell me why the passport was rejected ( I didnt ask, I dont care - the answer to this is merely ‘Amazon’… I just want to change the drop down box!!!)

They came back to advise I start all over again with a new account!! Do I really have to start a whole new account??? I did just try but got rejected because my mobile number is already linked…soooo I’ve got to get another mobile phone contract, a new amazon account and probably a whole new house to live in just because Amazon’s systems are awful?

Has anyone had this issue at all?

NO, NO, NO, don’t open a new account -totally wrong advice from support…but then you say you did try - I fear that might trigger your existing account to be suspended because of the link. I hope not.

There are strict criteria for opening a second account - must have different bank account, email address etc. and not sell in the same category as the first account.

The Amazon verification process is one of the most useless of any company due to the fact that it’s farmed out to somewhere half way round the world. (Possibly China judging by some of the communications I’ve had from in the past).

This means that the people doing the verifying are often not familiar with UK documents and hence they have no clue what they are supposed to be looking for.

However, I would simply upload your passport again and hope that the next agent who sees it has more of a clue.

If for whatever reason they keep rejecting it just open a case and ask if they will accept a driving licence instead. Hopefully, they will then accept the driving licence even though it will still ask you to upload a ‘passport’. That’s what I did and it worked.

In addition for Amazon .com

  • be in colour (black and white not accepted)
  • for multi-page files merge the images into one file to upload
  • have date of birth (if applicable) that matches the date of birth provided during registration
  • have a signature
  • if submitting a passport, be sure the passport has your signature

I would like to have video calls with seller support. It would be great to know if I am communicating with a computer or a human or indeed a combination of the two.

I had something similar. When I went to register for Handmade US, I had to reverify. But the passport I had originally used was now out of date. So I opted to use my driving licence.

Every time I went to the page to fill in the details, my passport was the only option. There was no option to select any other type of ID.

I spent weeks back and forward with seller support who were of no use whatsoever and most answers were nothing to do with the issue, etc. Showed them screenshots of the forms and asked them to mark where on the form it would let me select drivers licence.

In the end, I managed to get to submit the form myself by just filling it in with my drivers licence details - so all the usual, name, address, valid, from, valid to, etc., But where it was asking for my passport number I put in my driving licence number. Along with the uploaded photos (I think), it all went through ok.

It’s just bonkers. The form says it wants your passport details (that you don’t have) but to get past it you put in another form of id whilst it’s still saying “you’re submitting passport details”, when you’re actually putting in a different type of id.

If I were Amazon I wouldn’t take kindly to a person wanting to sell on Amazon opening a thread with the title “I absolutely hate amazon”. Not the best way to get support from them. And before you ask, I don’t have any shares in Amazon.
