Returns so high I am leaving Amazon sadly

Hello, fellow Amazon sellers,

I’m not sure what to think anymore as a seller. Returns are destroying all my profits. I can barely make $1 per order, but if I raise my prices, I lose sales to other sellers.

The problem is that:

1 in 10 customers send items back.

1 in 10 provide a bad address and is returned

1 in 10 scams me.

1 in 10 changes their mind after I’ve already shipped.

It feels like every other order is a loss due to one of these issues. Each return costs me around $20 in shipping back and forth, meaning I need to sell 20 more items just to break even. But then, with those 20 orders, I get five more returns… and the cycle continues.

It’s frustrating because my listings are well-made—accurate descriptions, good images, proper sizing, and competitive pricing. But none of it seems to matter. Items that used to sell without issue years ago are now constantly returned, often used.

I sell party supplies, and people use them for their event and then send them back. This is becoming common across all marketplaces, and it only seems to be getting worse every year.

I’ve tried everything in my 25 years as a seller, but it feels impossible to stop this. Meanwhile, Chinese sellers undercut everything, and American sellers lose out.

Is there any way to reduce returns and keep selling profitable? I get it returns are part of the business and all but now it is seems IT IS THE BUSINESS. Last year selling on Amazon if no fix is ever done to stop it. If buyers were held countable things would change overnight.,

Just you wait. Amazon and Walmart are considering refunding without required returns.

Whether or not this is legal or not is debatable, considering what is already in the BSA.

I can understand.

I have about 1 per 40 order that gets returned. Usually, its customers who says they did not receive or its lost in transit even though tracking will show delivered. I havent gotten any scammer in a while, but a lot of FBA returns are refused delivery.

But I still would not consider turning on return less return, I will make every customer return the product regardless of the condition. It seems like too many customer abuse the No need to return option.

As far as your situation, I would suggest not selling party supplies.

I feel for you, i have exactly the same issue here, so sad. I see many customer don;t even open th ebag and return but return reason says too large, don;t fit, all B* return reaosns. over the last 2 years the amount of returns has got a bit out of control people are sending stuff back more than ever as amazon are making it so easy with return labels and pick ups from home ect all paid for by the sellers.
