Help! Amazon Won’t Let Me Ship Without VAT Number (But I’m Not Registered)
I’m a new UK-based sole trader preparing to send in my first shipment. My turnover is well below the £90,000 threshold, so I’m not VAT registered (and according to gov.uk, I don’t need to be yet). I’ve also applied for my EORI number, which doesn’t require a VAT number.
However, when I try to create the shipment in Amazon Seller Central, it won’t let me proceed without entering a UK VAT number. I’m confused- do I really have to register for VAT just to ship my products? Or is there a way to bypass this step?
Has anyone else run into this?

If you are below the threshold then no, you do not need to be VAT registered. Have you by any chance used a virtual address for registering with Amazon ? - if so it might be that as Amazon seems to assume that if you are using a virtual UK address that you might not actually be a UK resident.
