Out of the blue - DVD deactivation
Good afternoon dear readers. Last evening (20/07), the following DVD ASIN’s were deactivated without warning or reason. Have checked announcements - nothing that I can see. Have not been asked for invoices. Nor can I see a common denominator. All bar one are new. Would appear that DVD’s are now (or about to be) gated. Can anyone confirm this to be the case - before I fire off a stiff email and make a fool of myself. .

This has been the case a few years now, it’s a moving target as no idea what titles are currently restricted until you attempt to list, or already listed titles get blocked/removed.
Never been any announcement, just implemented. Amazon claim it’s to prevent fakes.

Hey… go ahead and make a fool of yerself…
I’m up for a bit of that…

I can’t see that any of those ASIN’s are restricted, normally it’s new, popular titles, must be some other reason for their removal?

I checked all the ASINs, which you mentioned and I am able to list them. They are not restricted.

Same thing happened to me last night. Eight DVDs deactivated. I did receive an email though saying it was due to pricing errors. This was not the case as when I went to edit the prices and add a high and low price as per their suggestion, I could not edit anything and was told the manufacturer had ristricted the sale. Same message for each item.
I phoned them up. Three times. Two hours of going round in circles with no solution. On one of the calls I gave the guy an ASIN for him to check. He was tapping away on his keyboard and gave me no answer. The item from that ASIN is now stranded. The others remain inactive and unable to edit in any way.
Now here is the fun part. The original call to them was on Wednesday because on Monday and Tuesday I was getting another FBA shipment ready. I scanned a load of DVDs until I had about 130 (15 kilo’s) that were worth sending. All accepted, no worries. I then went back the next day to clean, grade and list them. Every single one was coming up as restricted. That was when I phoned them to see what the hell was going on. Nobody knew anything apart from the default answers they are programmed to give.
All three cases have been referred to the specialist team for them to help. I am still awaiting that phonecall.
Something is definitely going on with the sale of DVDs and it isn’t good. For them to accept over a hundred titles one day and then overnight, restrict them all proves that.
I was livid at all of this. I still am. I want answers. Answers that I probably wont get.
Go fire off your stiff email and keep us posted on how it goes.

All,
I have noticed exactly the same thing. Last week I couldn’t add titles like La Cage Aux Folles and the original Fame, so just put them aside.
However this morning logged on and I cannot list anything by MGM, Warner, Studio Canal and others.
Definitely something afoot, almost a purge. It would be good if we could get some statement from Amazon about it. I’m hoping it’s a glitch but suspect not.

I’ve just checked the first few of those titles and I can see some obvious problems -B00CGVRC7A is a very dodgy-looking Chinese import, B06W56QSH7 is an Australian import so potentially R4, B01LNKB2LQ (Spiderman 3) is another foreign (Swedish?) import with no UK certification… that’s just from the first 5 on the list.
To be fair, Amazon is a full of these sort of dubious foreign imports and I’ve long wondered why they’ve allowed them. AFAIK it’s actually illegal to sell DVDs that have not been through the UK certification process, so why has Amazon allowed them for so long?
Some of the other titles look innocuous enough but who knows what’s going on? It’s probably another example of Amazon using a sledgehammer to crack tiny nuts.

OK, as a test can someone try the following DVD;s which I can no longer list (All UK releases, all certificated)
Prince of Darkness - 5060049140094
The Toumb of Ligeia - 5050070028515
I’m just trying to get an understanding, do i need to get permission now to list DVD’s, or is it just a general all round blockage?
Never had any issues in the past. I’m wondering as I’m not paying to sell things on Amazon (£30 a month) that it could be another restriction.
Feedback welcome.
