How can I close my account permanently?

I tried support but they auto-close my help ticket by sending me to the Dashboard.

Our account has been deactivated because we are a state agency and Amazon wants paperwork I cannot provide (we don't have a bank statement, all our money goes through the unversity, etc).

We deleted all listings. It's been almost 6 months since a sale. I downgraded to the per-sale account as Support told me to do so they would stop charging the credit card. But there is literally no way to close the account from the Dashboard. The close account button sends me to Support which only has the option to appeal or reactivate—nothing else. And the help bot is just closing my ticket in 10 seconds and sending me to the Dashboard where the close account link doesn't work.

How does one get their account deleted? I wouldn't care except you can't remove the credit card and it's against state procurement law to have a credit card saved anywhere unless you have an exception—which we did when we sold on Amazon, but now that we are leaving Amazon behind, I don't have that permission and I can't remove the card.

Support told me last that once all the listings were deleted and 90 days had passed, the account could be closed but now it doesn't appear to be the case. How do I close the acccount?

You will not be able to close an account that is suspended.

If you have no other solution, replace that credit card and walk away.

Add the replacement card first to the buying side of the account, then choose it from the seller side.

Hi @IL_State_Arch_Survey,

I understand you are wanting to close your deactivated account. As @Seller_Hi7wbO2Kbo6bl stated, selling accounts can only be permanently closed if they are active and in good standing. In order to close out the account, you will need to first get it reinstated from you deactivation. You can find more information about how to close out your account here.

With this in mind, please share why your account was deactivated so that we may better assist you in this regard.

Amazon wants paperwork I cannot provide

Can you elaborate a bit more on this. What documents are being requested, and why are you unable to provide the documents? If you do not have a bank statement as you have stated, what documentation do you have that would show the funds go through the university as you have mentioned? You also mention a credit card in your post. Is the associated with the university you have referenced or something else? If this is the credit card you have on file within the account, you will want to provide a statement from that card. So my question here would be to what kind of an account is this card associated and what documents can you provide to show that association?

Please continue to reach out the community for further assistance.

Regards,

Troy

Hi Troy,

I appreciate your reply. I had Tim from support email and call but I can't reply to the email and the phone number is unavailable so I can't call back.

We closed our account because as a state agency, we do not have utility bills or bank statements.

We receive money from the state which goes straight to the university. We are housed in a university building so they provide utilities from the university system. We do not have phones, only VOIP connected to computers, etc.

We do not have bank accounts—if I had a bank account with our state agency name on it, I'd be arrested for fraud.

We do not receive statements from our purchasing cards—the university financial department reconciles those charges and most charges need an estimate and invoice prior to payment. There is zero possibility that the University of Illinois is going to give me the university banking information so I can close a dead Amazon account. No balance is allowed to be carried on the cards so it's not a traditional card, it's meant to be used for approved purchases and money is pulled from existing accounts. We can get exceptions to have a card on file, which I had when we sold books, but now that we can't use Amazon, I no longer have an exception and it is no longer legal under Illinois law to have the card on file.

I cannot provide any of the paperwork Amazon has requested which I have known for months. We are building our own website to sell our publications moving forward. I followed Amazon support instructions when I told them months ago I couldn't provide this information—which was to delete our listings and wait 90 days to close the account.

I need to close the account. If it isn't possible for Amazon to close it, I'll just pass the buck onto the University so they can deal with it.
