Is this acceptable behaviour and an acceptable response?

@Jessica

We received an Amazon message today from a customer in Ireland asking for a tracking number and enquiring why their order had not been delivered today (1st December) for an order placed and shipped yesterday (30th November). We informed them that Standard Airmail was not a tracked service, that their order shipped the same day that it was received (30th November) and that they could view estimated delivery dates when placing an order and in their Order History.

This was the response that we got,

I have redacted personal information as well as any offensive words which were sent.

Firstly I am horrified that anyone would send such a message, secondly I am horrified more so as our communication was nothing but courteous and factual.

We used the ‘Report Message’ link and also opened a case with Amazon and all we got was an auto-reply.

I appreciate that lots of messages probably get reported, but this is highly offensive, vulgar, abusive and highly threatening.

Is this acceptable behaviour from a buyer and an acceptable response from Amazon?

IMO completely unacceptable and I would be tempted to report it to the police

Personally I would report it to the police and let them deal with them.

This is totally unacceptable. They have made threats in the message and it is illegal to threaten using electronic communications just as it is illegal to threaten someone face to face.

Don’t let it get to you, we all get something like that at some point.
Just report the message and move on.

The problem is, they see Amazon as a faceless giant and hide behind the keyboard. If it was face to face, you simply wouldn’t get it the same.

They sound not quite all there, do they not realise that both you and Amazon have their contact details. I would report this one to the police and then move on.

That’s atrocious, and must have been really distressing to receive. That message actually threatens you, your company and your property, and that is illegal, so I think you must report this. This person sounds very unstable. You have my sincerest sympathy at having to deal with someone like this.

Is the customer in Northern Ireland (NI), or Southern Ireland (Eire)?

If NI - you can report to your local police station and press to ensure charges are made.

If Eire - then it is much harder, but can still be reported to their police of course.

To also be aware if the item is under €25 if going to Eire, then all they have to do is ask Amz Customer Services and they will obtain a full refund, unless you have a Eire returns address.

Amz do have a specific department to report this to, I think it is: suspect-abuse@amazon.com (it is .com). You may like to confirm with SS. Although Amz took all details, when a member of staff of ours had a racist death threat, Amz really did not do anything, as I know the Buyer still messaged us, but was very polite after. The police though, did see the customer and matters were logged in case anything happened, but the police said they considered the customer was surprised at a police visit and no more would happen, I gather Amz did inform required details to the police.
