Seller Support 'change their mind' after 3 weeks costing me thousands!?

I am furious! Genuinely think Amazon are in the wrong here and thinking about getting Legal advice if not resolved.
I requested product group/category approval 3 weeks ago. I am a seller of baby products and want to sell bibs in the baby feeding category (bearing in mind these are just items of clothing!)
After a lot of communication/providing ALL of the required evidence, Amazon seller support notified me that my request has been APPROVED.
I proceeded with the order from my supplier, set up the shipment to an FBA warehouse (long before the recent Covid 19 ‘cut off’ date and the shipment is currently on its way, having now spent a few thousand pounds!
I today randomly received an email from Seller Support saying they have basically ‘changed their mind’, asking again for the documents that i have already provided and were approved!
I sent the documents again, only to receive the most unhelpful email i have EVER received from seller support saying that my request is now ‘not approved’ as i am simply ‘not an eligible seller’ !!!??
What on earth is going on here? I have thousands of pounds of stock on its way because Amazon approved me selling in this category!
Why would i now not be eligible (as a current seller of baby products) why are my documents suddenly not acceptable? I have tried replying to Seller Support and whilst i appreciate they are really stretched in the current Covid 19 situation, I am getting nowhere. Can Amazon do this to sellers? Help!!

Could this be them not wanting non essential stock as they perceive it in their warehouses and in FBA stock and are going about doing so in entirely the wrong way by the sounds of it? As you say you have received approval and then acted on that approval. Its a ridiculous decision.

This is the opening few lines of the original email confirming approval.

'Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

Thank you for your application to list products in the Baby Feeding category.

I’m pleased to inform you that we have approved your request and granted you permission to sell in this category’.

And this is the most recent response i have received today:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

I have reviewed your most recent correspondence and I understand that you have some questions about the decision that was reached in this case. Unfortunately, due to the proprietary nature of these applications, Selling Partner Support is unable to provide any additional information outside of what has already been communicated.

For any further questions regarding Case ID: xxxxxxxxxxxx, please reach out to nt-sfpa-review@amazon.co.uk

As for this application, we have reviewed your account and determined you are not eligible to sell in the Baby Feeding category. We evaluated the information you provided, but it did not pass our review. We apologise for any inconvenience our decision has caused you. We took this action to ensure the mutual success of the sellers and buyers on our site.

This decision doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on you or your seller account. We take a number of factors into consideration.

You are always more than welcome to re-apply once you have obtained new documentation. When ready, please follow the steps below to create a new application.

  1. In Seller Central, click on the Inventory link and select “Add a Product”.
  2. Search for the item that you wish to sell.
  3. In the search results, click on the “Listing limitations apply” link next to the product.
  4. Click on the “Request Approval” button to begin the application process. Note that the “Request Approval” button might not be available for some ineligible products.

We truly appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this process.

I am gobsmacked! They apologise for ‘any inconvenience’ !!! I cant cancel the listing and reapply under ‘baby clothing’ as this would create a whole new ASIN. My stock is on its way with the original ASIN/SKU labels.
What on earth is going on here!
Is anyone from Amazon Seller Support with half a brain cell able to help here?

It appears to me baby bibs are under apparel and not under baby products such as baby bottles etc etc. If you applied for bibs to be sold in the baby category maybe that maybe an error?. Amazon did say they were prioritising FBA products for essential items only. Not sure why you cannot sell them yourself in the interim without any loss. In any event your fees will be much lessor because pick, pack and storage costs will not be included therefore you can sell the product at a lower price.

Amazon decides which products go into which categories.

It’s called contingency.

I will tell you how mad Amazon are currently from my own experience. Email first then call. Asking me to join FBA. I have turned this down on numerous occasions. I don’t wish to be controlled by Amazon. I am happy as a 3rd party seller. I have large exposure on other platforms which i get my income from.

So I took the call and he was explaining to me how great it was to be a FBA seller etc. I asked if I could send my items in straight away which he said YES. I asked him if he had read the email saying no one could send stock into FBA unless agreed by Amazon and on the great LIST.

He said he was not aware of any list and anybody could send in any stock.

Altogether now. LEFT HAND RIGHT HAND.

No I won’t be joining the FBA Amazon elite.
