Benefits of having a Barcode for a generic product

i am selling a generic product on Amazon, but i want to know is there any benefit to having a barcode (i can list my product with a GTIN exemption).
then second question, why do people who sell private label have a barcode, is this just a requirement of Amazon

hoya, I think maybe it just looks more professional or could be handy if they sell on more than one platform or from.their own store as well, I'm with you gtin exemption all the way, I've got 22000 designs would cost a fortune in barcodes😁. Even if you sell FBA Amazon provide labels with a scannable barcode so they know what it is in the warehouse, I'd stay as you are, good luck with your selling!
