Listing an old book not already in the Amazon catalogue

Does anybody know how to list a pre ISBN book that is not already in the Amazon catalogue?

It used to be relatively simple - apply for GTIN exemption. That is no longer the case unless you are prepared to enter the publisher as “generic” rather than give the name of the actual publisher.

Did you use the search button in ‘add a product’ to check if the book was already in the catalogue?

I dare say you already know this, but books that have no ‘current offers’ are often hidden from initial search results.

Anyway, I would also be interested to know if there is a way around it.

We used to be able just to include them in our regular bulk uploads & they would be accepted, & a new ASIN created. Now I get a message that I may not create a new listing for Hutchinson, Mills & Boon or whatever (even Lea & Perrins for a little recipe leaflet!) even tho’ the books were published in the 1930s & 40s. What publisher is going to be bothered with a request for permission to list an 80/90 year old book? (assuming that the publisher still exists)

I was wondering why so many new duplicate listings were appearing in the catalogue with “Generic” as the publisher. Now I know. The dropshippers have obviously discovered a new loophole.

Apologies for the digression, I’m afraid I can’t answer your original question. It has been so long since I have tried adding a new title to the catalogue. These days if I can’t find the correct listing on Amazon then I simply ignore it list elsewhere. Amazon has become too much hassle to do anything complicated.

Of course you can sometimes list with a newer reprint .This may not help your problem but the listings are so poor that you sometimes don’t have much choice but to list like this.To me ,if you describe it well customers can decide wether to go for the reprint or an older edition.
