A shipment without an IEN - are there any repercussions?

Hi sellers,

I’m currently facing an issue with the Import Entry Number (IEN) for a shipment that is now closed on the Amazon UK marketplace, and I’m hoping to get some insights from anyone who has experienced a similar situation.

My logistics provider has not provided the IEN, despite multiple requests from my side. I have followed the process on Seller Central by selecting the option “The shipment does not have import records” and provided the reason “My goods were imported but my broker/logistics provider has not provided the IEN upon request”. I’ve also shared proof of my communication with my carrier with Amazon support.

However, I am unclear on what happens after the 60-day grace period to provide an IEN.

Has anyone else experience a similar situation? Where your shipment doesn't have an IEN and the 60 day grace period has passed, have you seen any repercussions on your selling privileges?

I’ve contacted Amazon Support multiple times, but they haven’t been able to clarify my doubts.

Any help or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hello, @Seller_8ck65KDzs9hIv,

Thank you for your post. This is Sunnie, from Amazon. Let me help you navigate this situation:

First, it's important to know that the Import Entry Number (IEN) is a crucial piece of information for customs clearance in the UK, especially post-Brexit. If you don't have this number for a closed shipment, don't worry - there are steps you can take.

Here's what I'd recommend:

  1. Contact Amazon Seller Support: They should be your first point of call. Explain your situation and ask if they can provide the IEN from their records. Sometimes, they might have this information even if it's not visible to you on the seller platform.
  2. Check your shipping documents: If you used a freight forwarder or courier service, the IEN might be on the shipping documents they provided. It's worth double-checking all your paperwork.
  3. Reach out to your customs broker: If you used one for this shipment, they would have handled the customs clearance and should have the IEN on record.
  4. Contact HMRC: As a last resort, you can reach out to HM Revenue & Customs. They might be able to trace the shipment using other details you have, like the shipment date, value, or product descriptions.
  5. For future shipments: Make sure to always keep a record of your IENs. It's a good practice to store this information along with other important shipment details for easy reference.
  6. Remember, while the shipment is closed on Amazon's system, this doesn't mean you can't retrieve the information. It might take a bit of back-and-forth communication, but persistence usually pays off in these situations.

As you mentioned you already reached out to our Support team, could you please share on this thread your Case ID, so I can take a look?

Thanks,

Sunnie
