Amazon won't look for used items that become lost without an invoice?

I've searched for this topic and found a couple of similar discussions, but there was no resolution in any of them, so I thought I would post to see if anything can be done.I hope that admin can help.

I am a small vendor and send in used inventory for FBA in small batches (~30 in a box a couple of times a month). I've been doing this since FBA started. I mention this because I list, prep, pack, and ship everything myself. If something accidentally wasn't included in a box, it would be obvious.

Anyway, recently I had a situation where one of my items was initially received, but then 10 days later went missing. When I asked for an investigation, the customer service folks have asked for invoices because that is Amazon's policy. As you might imagine, used items don't have invoices. They won't look for the item without an invoice.

So, first, is there anything that can be done to remedy this, or am I just out of luck? Second, if this is the policy, what is to stop workers from taking used items because they know that Amazon won't ever look for them? Is there no protection for third parties who send in used inventory?

Case# 16058178431

Thanks for any help.

there is no resolution. You even face permanent suspension now selling anything without brand approved distributor invoices.

First, congratulations on surviving using a sale plan that has been disappearing on Amazon for several years now. In so many ways for the new, improved(??), Amazon, you are the dictionary definition of an anachronism.

Amazon has been consciously/conspicuously distancing itself from the eBay garage sale type of site for several years now as shown in dozens/hundreds of Forum posts.

Pay attention to what @Seller_4zBzdtgCyS9EIhas said.

Here is the new style for your edification and reading pleasure. It's one of my newer templates so use what applies (and flee to other more seller friendly sites like eBay for ALL used items!)

THE AMAZON TWO STEP -- A NEW DANCE FOR SELLERS

More and more frequently Amazon is taking a TWO STEP approach and you are probably caught with not doing one of the steps (or either one!)

You are likely confusing AMAZON allowing you to list (or at least "ungate") an item or category and actually being APPROVED to sell a product. Amazon may have ungated you for a CATEGORY but there can be 100's of brands in the category and they ALL have their own restrictions.

AMAZON is only interested in FEES. They will allow a chimpanzee to list if it means they collect $$$$$.

Additionally, brands that you COULD sell yesterday may be restricted today or next week. Amazon is a moving target to deal with.

DO YOU have an LOA from the brand allowing you to sell on here?

If you have an LOA that specifically says you can sell on Amazon you MIGHT survive this. Is it POSSIBLE that the brand has sent Amazon a "whitelist" of approved sellers and did not have you on it? Contact your sales rep at the BRAND(S) involved and ask about their whitelist. (You DO have a rep at the brands, don't you?)

More and more brands are providing such a "whitelist" of their approved sellers and if YOU are NOT on the list you will be stopped in your tracks and probably hit with an IP violation.

I had one of my brands stop me because they CHANGED the company they hired to screen sellers. The NEW screener did not recognize my Amazon store name because I do all my purchases under a different LLC. It took a couple weeks to get straightened out and no problems since then.

DID YOU source from AUTHORIZED wholesale sources that your rep at the brand says are OK.

NOTE the verification is required from the brand that the source is legitimate and authorized, NOT from one of those touted on TikTok and YouTube as having "thousands of brands and products" that assures you that they are authorized.

If you have watched any YouTube or TikTok videos FORGET everything you saw there.

Spend hours/days on Seller U and read the Forum to see all the really creative ways rookies and experienced sellers find to get suspended by ignoring the advice above!

For the same reason they still let sellers list Nike, KNOWING Nike does not permit resale, hence NONE of the sellers are brand authorized and Amazon WILL sooner or later destroy their inventory and confiscated their money.

Why?

you are correct, they will not. There is nothing you can do. You are not technically allowed to sell ANYTHING on Amazon any longer (for years now) without an invoice (from an authorized source).

You should be selling Merchant Filled for your business model or transition to other platforms.

Might not be what you want to hear, but it is what it is.

Let's put it the other way. You sent an item that got lost. If you do not show them invoices, they are not positive you sent whatever you claim you sent.

Turning back to your question, yes, this is sad but true. Amazon's system is engineered to fit sellers that sell new items and preferably sell a lot of them. They still have used items sellers but their system is not a fit for them.

To conclude, I believe there is nothing you can do if you do not have invoices for the items. You may encounter other problems too such as you sold a 10-year-old item, the customer's claim is not authentic and they will ask you for invoices.

Go buy something from Amazon renewed. Say you can’t find it, but you will look if they give you an invoice for it. Say you think it’s probably counterfeit and you need a refund in the meantime while they come up with the invoice.

What you described is a perfect reason not to use FBA for used books.

Maybe the reason they want an invoice is so that they know how much you paid for them, so that they can reimburse you for the lost items.
