No puffins or penguins?
We only sell second hand books. Just received two emails from Amazon, one saying we now need approval to sell ‘puffin products’, and the other the same for penguin.
"As part of our ongoing efforts to provide the best possible customer experience, we have implemented additional approval requirements for Penguin products.
Effective 2021-11-13, you will need approval to list the affected products. If you do not obtain approval by this date, your listings will be removed. This action does not impact your account health"
So far nothing appearing in the deleted products that I can identify. We have around 1250 of books by these publishers. Any clues?
Lee and Ian, Darkwood books.

Expect a lot more publishers added to the list. I have just had one for Century.

And Bloomsbury, Simon & Schuster. Waiting for a whole slew of others… Last nail in the coffin for several small sellers such as ourselves…

Yes, I have also had 4 emails - Puffin, Bloomsbury, Cassell and Frances Lincoln Children’s Books.
What the heck is this all about ? - absolute madness, and how are we supposed to get approval for all these publishers ?
Is this Amazon getting rid of the used book category ?

I have had two one for Phaidon products and one for BBC Physical Audio. I presume the BBC includes DVDs, Music and Audiobook CDs. Looks like I will close very soon. Amazon is closing down all little sellers, not unexpected. I have clicked sell now Phaidon books and they say you need approval now.

About a tenth of my inventory are Penguins , Pelicans and other “Penguin products”. If they are removed it will be yet another hammer blow.
What possible reasoning can there be for this. ? Surely it cannot be the book companies themselves that are complaining? What possible benefit is there to customers? Collectors of , for example “green Penguins” want the original books. They will now be disappointed if Amazon actually implement this policy.
Are we certain this is not some sort of a hoax?

we have a new “rule” in our household for Christmas
any books bought to be gifted MUST be secondhand!
it’s senseless that Amazon what Amazon is doing

Thing is the approval page doesn’t include the books catalogue yet and the catalogue pages for the publishers have dead “request approval” buttons, and only on some of the titles.
Sounds like Amazon SNAFU.
On a wider point, I’ve been reading up on using statistics to predict future sales. If Amazon does gate these publishers, I doubt it will make much difference.

Oh no! What a potential nightmare this is!
I too have started receiving emails this morning (about Penguin, Puffin, Warner etc), warning that listings will be removed if approval has not been obtained by today. Does this mean that each and every Penguin product, each and every Puffin product etc in my inventory will need approval? Or will we be able to submit a blanket approval request?
Will it affect only ‘NEW’ products or ‘USED’ products as well?
The emails say to go to the ‘Approval Required’ view, but I don’t see this view anywhere in the ‘Fix Your Products’ page. Is this because I don’t currently have any products requiring approval, but may have hundreds of products requiring approval when I look tomorrow??
This is causing massive anxiety, as I can envisage that this will put me out of business. I don’t sell on Abebooks (anyway it seems unsuitable for my business, which focuses on audiobooks and music products) or eBay, but perhaps this will be the only way forward for disposing of stock before winding up my business…

It appears to have something to do with Selling application status, on your dashboard. We looked at this, and it asks if you are officially associated with the brand, and requires photos of all packaging and bar codes. Makes no sense at all.
