Amazon temporarily out of stock but still getting buy box

Trying to get my head around this one (apart from the obvious answer - well it’s Amazon being Amazon)

ASIN: B00G7TE6NU

Amazon is temporarily out of stock but still getting the buy box.
We’ve got 30+ in stock , price is lower by £4.43 but we are just in the “available from these sellers” bit

Any clues how to get the buy box for an item that we are in stock of but the buy box winner isn’t ?

Happens all the time. You could do the following to increase your chances of winning the buy box, including in situations like this:

  • Offer Prime (either SFP or FBA)
  • Offer Premium shipping (and hit performance metrics) - Your current express shipping might be eligible for upgrade to premium.
  • Lower your price

I think your first sentence was enough.

This is Amazons playground, and if they don’t want you playing with their toys then you won’t get to. That’s THEIR buy box and if they want to stay in it, they will.

Customer comes along… clicks buy box… product not available… goes and buys it on ebay… :man_facepalming:

So much for being customer centric.

Worse thing is amazon taking the buy box for pre-orders. I’ve lost count of the number of times, I’m the only seller and things are going good only for amazon pre orders to appear and take over the buy box.

Makes you realise how much of a win win situation they are in. They have all the sales data, make money regardless of whether they stock it or not. If they want too and see it’s profitable enough for them to take over the buy box then they will. I think that’s fair enough since it’s their playground but I think taking over the listing without committing to having any stock is simply not on.

If I could take pre orders and only buy when there’s no risk of me buying stock I can’t sell then I would clearly have an advantage over every one else. They are undercutting you without shipping anything until they have enough orders, and minimising the cashflow risk to them. No one can compete with amazon in purchasing power. They can even dictate prices to manufacturers.

I deal with it because they still disburse a good chunk of money to me every 2 weeks. I’m just complaining about them taking over buy boxes with pre orders for items they weren’t interested in stocking until you began selling enough of them to take an interest.
