Universal Products
Every now and then a product listing is marked as Inactive having been classified by Amazon as “UNIVERSAL” without any explanation for this. To continue to sell the product I have to provide a purchase receipt from the last 180 days which usually isn’t possible. Amazon claim this helps the buyer but I can’t see how. Can anyone explain please?

Can you post one of the notifications that you receive for this

Got the same message this morning for 3 used CDs = Universal, Mercury and WB. Clicking the seek approval link looks as if it is meant only for any in ‘new’ condition, but being Amazon of course, used items are also flagged. There is no way I can see of getting approval for my own items bought legitimately over the past 20 years…this is happening every few weeks now, drip drip drip

I’ve just received several of these notifications overnight: Universal, UCA, WB and Mercury products. So far only a couple of actual listings have been deactivated, seemingly at random, but doubtless more will follow. The deactivated listings are both used items (one of them a decades-old music cassette!), and both require invoices, so I won’t be able to reactivate them. I am essentially a secondhand trader, so I don’t have any invoices from suppliers or distributors. I am therefore barred from selling these products on Amazon despite a long track record of satisfied customers. It’s infuriating, and I know from personal experience that there is no point whatever in complaining, writing to the Managing Director etc.

I have been selling on Amazon for 21 years & it counts for nothing. Helping the customer my
a–e. All they want is information about how & where you buy your products.
In my opinion they no longer want third-party sellers which is strange when 30% of all sales are by we humble minions ? Sales that are probably very profitable.
As my medal for 21 years of loyalty to amazon has got lost in the post - maybe it is time to sell my stuff elsewhere ?

I’ve had three of these overninght, regarding Universal, Mercury and XL.
The affected titles are all used and were listed years ago.
It’s reaching the point where selling CDs and DVDs on Amazon is more hassle tthan it’s worth.

Hello.
This is the Amazon Dalek here.
You earthling third party sellers will all be EXTERMINATED!
EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE!

I had the email late last night (why do these emails always come through late at night) and couldn’t see what had been removed, today I see I have had 4 VHS videos delisted. Clicking on request approval for them all brings up the request for invoices with the last 12 months. Well that’s not going to happen, typical Amazon, presumably there will be more removed over the next few days.

I created new Seller Support cases for a couple of deactivated items today (a U2 cassette from many years ago, and a more recent spoken word CD). Not getting anywhere so far. The usual back and forth with people who don’t understand the issue or say they can’t forward anything to the relevant team. Not expecting any resolution, but will go through the usual exchange of messages with Seller Support, with threats to write to the Managing Director to complain…
I don’t think it’s a deliberate policy to drive away small independent sellers, as this makes zero commercial sense. I just think they are completely dysfunctional and nobody is interested in resolving these issues, so they keep falling through the net. They must get so many complaints that they are delegated to a junior level where nobody has the initiative or authority to change anything.

Strange how the likes of magpie, Wob, webuy etc are still selling used copies on the affected titles.
No doubt they all have official invoices dated within the last 12 months
