Faulty Toaster Complaint After 10 Months. Were do I stand

I sold a toaster and after 10 months customer has messaged to say the toaster is not working. Am I obliged to take the faulty toaster back after 10 months of use and do I have to also pay the return postage?

is there anything to suggest the customer is using the toaster commercially (workplace/cafe etc)?

otherwise presumably the product has a manufacturers warranty back via you as the dealer/retailer.

I have diagnosed the fault for you.

It's nearly Christmas & the buyer needs to generate some income.

in reality it’s over 30 days past the finally delivery date so they can’t open a return request or leave feedback or open an a-z claim.

As it’s over 6 months from the delivery date the onus would also be on the customer to prove the fault was there at the time of purchase, which would involve them sending it for analysis.

So no you don’t have to accept a return unless there were any warranty’s, though that may be dealt with by the manufacturer.

Reach out to your wholesaler who can advise on the brand's warranty policy for that particular model. You'll be better informed if it perhaps says 1 year warranty on the box/enclosed paperwork.

I'm afraid that you have no chance in this case. I used to sell non-contact thermometers and one day I sold two to a doctor. One year and 51 weeks later i received a message from Amazon saying that the customer wanted a refund on both of them. At the time they were new to the market and fairly expensive so I contacted Amazon who told me that they follow EU rules which state that all electrical /electronic items must be guaranteed for 2 years. Obviously the customer knew about these rules - hence the refund request within 1 week of the 2 years. Amazon refunded him from my account and he didn't have to return them. Needless to say, I stopped selling anything like this from that time.

You have to offer a repair or replacment under consumer law. Its for the customer to prove the fault has always been there. If it was first 6months then law says you assume the fault always been there. This is obvs UK Laws (not sure if you are uk or not)

If faulty yes you have to deal with it and yes you'd have to cover return postage if it's faulty.

A 12 month guarantee doesn't mean someone is automatically entitled to a refund, if nearing the end of the period a supplier/manufacture can repair or replace at their discretion, you do have a right to fix the situation.

That said, Amazon will overide all of this with a refund and which isn't actually what the customer is entitled to, and call it part of the 'customer experience on Amazon'

That also said, a lowish value item like a toaster will often just be replaced not repaired.

Reality is, he/she will get their money and there is nothing you can do about it. As it is Amazon.

We had 100m cable reel returned with 2m left, stating its faulty after 1.5 years and they still favoured with the buyer.
