Royal Mail 24/48 Average Weight?
We’ve only just started using Royal Mail 48 with average weight. Is there a way to see how much the total weight is before you manifest.

we just make a note as we print the labels ie
10 x 50g
60 x 80g
24 x 200g
etc etc - we can then add the total items and the total weight and then weigh the bags to make sure it tallies

Thank you. Are you allowed to manifest things by weight brackets? For example if we had 100 x 99gram items and 1 x 110gram items the average weight would take the whole shipment until the 100+ weight bracket. So can you manifest the 99gram ones together and then the 110gram on another manifest in it’s own bag? I didn’t know if this would be seen as trying to get around the rules. I’m sure most days it will work out fine but there must be the odd day when someone is over by 1gram and it costs ££££ alot.

oh and also make sure you put them in separate bags !

That is called a batch and you would normally do several batches to one manifest.
Also its class type that go together in bags so all your 24 large letters in one bag and all your 48 large letters in another, and same for parcels upto 15kg total weight in one grey sack.

yes but you can also manifest batches separately
as i stated above, RM don’t encourage it but its not against their rules

Waste of bags the precious commodity “Grey Sacks” At random times of the year you’d have better chance of getting a tank of fuel.
I order more than i need just so i can have spare sacks for when the deliveries dry up.

our postie brings me a sackful every Friday

We just got sent loads of the plain white sacks… Nightmare things as they’re really small sizes some of them.

I take it with average weight you can still fill multiple bags for 1 manifest as long as it’s the same type. I.e all we’re sending is RM 48. So if we have another mail to go across 3 bags that’s fine for 1 manifest. We don’t have to manifest for each complete bag?? With BPL we always just did 1 manifest for all the bags and cable tie each with the green tag with the information and bag 1 has the manifest… I assume it’s the same for RM 48.

I want to ask I have a n item that weighs 900g and manifested this but when I went to the PO it came in at 917g and want to ask would I be penalised for this or not.
I need to note that my weighing scale goes up in every 50g etc aso I don’t have an exact precise to the gram scale one apart from a small wee one.
Please advise

In reply to the actual original question, yes you can work out the averages before you manifest. Once orders are marked as dispatched and BEFORE manifesting you can use the “reports” menu and create a report using the filters of large letter/parcel/48/24 etc then open a spreadsheet and work out your averages. You can then add a few lighter ones if the average is over etc etc.
