Does anyone know about Buy Box

We are a small vendor on Amazon for about three years. In that time we have always had 100% buy box for our branded trademarked products. An example is ASIN B07H6PSVD4 which we blend and bottle ourselves we also have one product that we import ready packaged.

Recently we have seen the buy box % drop to as low as 57% then bounce back to 100%. When we contact Amazon they just repeat the same nonsense about no other product being eligible for the buy box and there is no violation.

But if we are losing the buy box 43% of the time then someone else must be winning it. So if no other products can be sold as being the same as ours what is happening.

If anyone has a real explaination that fits the scenario we would be grateful. All our performance factors are in the excellent range, there are no flags, and we haven’t changed anything recently but sales drop when the buy box % is down so something odd is happening.

Amazon have confirmed no other products are eligible for the buy box pool in writing so we are completely confused.

So what did we learn?

The Buy Box metric is not under your control.
Nobody actually knows how it is calculated
SellerCentral will no longer answer requests to explain it.
The robot is fully engaged and points to a page that just makes everything more confusing. Further interaction is impossible.
If you are FBA and Branded, When you are not winning you may not be losing.
If you are not FBA or branded when you are losing you may be losing.
The metric changes by 45% or more without a single change by the vendor and it can do it over night then reset as quickly.
It is consequently not a performance metric as it suggests it is for FBA branded.
The same effect is felt by a large number of vendors of both types at the same time. Hence its not the vendor but Amazon that is making changes that change the metric.
Not getting the buy box may or may not affect sales.
Not getting the buy box may or may not happen after a CPC click.

In short we learnt very little and since there is absolutely nothing we can do about it I think the best advice that has been given here is to entirely ignore this metric as it will simply drive the sane mad while providing nothing of any benefit to anyone.

No one is probably seeing the buy box for the 43% of the time. They are probably seeing the ‘See All Buying Options Button’

Buy box is far more than just metrics, there are many factors such as despatch time, pricing, type of account buyer is using (Prime, Non Prime, Business)

If in Scotland it takes an extra 2 days to get your delivery then they may not see the buy box as the delivery time is too long. If you are a FBA seller and it is a prime account viewing they may see the buy box but a non prime account may not see the buy box.

The whole buy box is over complicated and if you are the only seller of an item then it would be perfectly normal to think you get the buy box all of the time but Amazon doesn’t work this way.

Also just as a side note to the above I do not always believe the buy box percentages Amazon give me so it maybe that it is the data that is wrong.

You’d think so, but that’s not necessarily true. The buy box algorithm is complex and its recipe is secret.

Have you checked your listing if they are hijacked?
I checked mine, I couldn’t pick any issues but they are still down.

As others have said. Just because you don’t have the BB, doesn’t mean someone else does.

Between the commercial directors and developers at Amazon, they have decided that the buy button should be removed/hidden under certain conditions. This is obviously a huge issue for buyers but Amazon feel holding sellers to ransom over a buy now button is more important than basic UI/UX.

Same with us. Own branded stuff with Italy usually at 100% and the others at around 80-95%. Bizarre stuff.

For what it’s worth I think the Buy Box percentage is not a true reflection of the Buy Boxes you have. My percentage goes up and down like a yoyo and makes no difference to my sales. I’ve given up fretting about what percentage is showing,

We’re own brand and buy box is usually 99%. It’s dropped to 50% overnight and all the metrics for individual items look way out.
Definitely a glitch or something new to drive us up the wall!

There is something weird going on today. I am usually around 98% but today it’s gone down to 64% .
Does anyone else see similar issue today?
