Certification for a new type of baby carrying aid product
A short description is needed: I have developed a new type of arm sling with the purpose of helping with arm fatigue when the user (parent) is carrying a child. The user mounts the device on his/her shoulder and grabs the handle situated at the base of the device. The baby sits freely on the user's forearm. The baby is NOT connected to the device in any form. It's a small, simple, yet robust device that can be mounted in seconds and can be carried easily in a pocket when not needed.
Because of it's unique functionality in the baby carrier aid category, only used with the user and NOT the child, we realised that there is no straight answer regarding standard certification for this product.
Can we list this product in the baby carriers category without issues?
Are we required a Children's Product Certification or just tests that pertain to strength, material safety (lead, fire resistant tests)?
If, regardless to it's particular function of not being used on or with a baby directly, we are still required a CPC, can we create one that is specific to this product? If yes, who decides what tests need to be done on this particular new device? Any advice that can get us closer to getting this done will be highly appreciated. I thank you in advance for your kind assistance!

Yes, that is required by USA Laws, so Amazon will ask to see your COC. There may be a problem, because if your testing was not done by a USA based testing lab, Amazon will not accept it.
Thus, if your manufacturer supplies the COC, it too, must be by a USA based testing lab. If made in China and a Chinese teasing lad was used, they know the product will not pass the USA testing standards. These products are made to be sold in 3rd World countries where no one cares.

Thank you very much for your answer. So to summarize, you are saying that we need a CPC even though our device is not used on the baby directly. Of this, I am not yet convinced, as it seems odd to impose child regulations on a device that only the "parent figure" uses. That ultimately would not be a problem for us, we just need to understand what standards we could be requested to apply, and do just that. As for our chinese manufacturer, they are the ones who stated I should enquire what standard certification would be required by Amazon, they are long time sellers in this market and told me to take all measures that Amz requires in order to not encounter any unforseen problems and get the listing approval.
