Secondhand books & DVDs

Quick question - am I right in thinking that a small seller simply cannot sell DVDs now, and that many "brands" of secondhand books cannot be sold either?

As a fellow book seller, Amazon's supposed 'branding' of books is ridiculous, but yes, I have had books that I cannot list because they need approval, and it is the same with some DVDs - but not all.

It's a fairly regular occurrence to be asked to be approved for a particular publisher.

I've only known that approval to be instantly granted and can list the book a couple of hours later.

There are some publishers that have become very difficult to list, especially for 'popular' titles.

DVDs and CDs are almost impossible to sell if you are new seller. Even established sellers will be asked to supply current 'authorised' invoices for many 'popular' titles, even for CDs and DVDs that are long out of print and not even available new (except as downloads or burn-on-demand discs)...

I find that is happening more and more.

It usually pops up on a titles with fairly high sales ranks (ie, 'popular' and/ or 'trending' titles).

I agree about the US academic publishers. I think they have quite a big problem in the USA with piracy and they've exported their paranoia over here.
